Mango Kebabby GeneralEComment by shair: I like the blue and yellow contrast. The color balance makes the chocolate a little too yellow to be appetizing though. I like the close crop and the composition, but think it could have been even closer for more interest. I also wish the focal distance was far enough to blur out the scratches on the plate. |

Mango Kebabby GeneralEComment by Skip: This is a tough challenge to vote. I'm torn between "what are you trying to do here" and "what do I expect here". Further complicating matters is the question "what would I do here".
What I would expect would be a technically strong piece of eye-candy that would present the dessert in a way that I would want to at least sample it, if not order it. Along these lines I'm looking at technicals: backgrounds, distracting elements, exposure, sharpness. I'm also looking for creativity, imagination, and originality, which can make up for less than perfect technicals.
So, where does this leave me with your image?
Nice idea, but needs work. As is, this is more about the toothpick than the dessert. Even without the toothpick, the lighting is a bit too harsh, robbing the mango of the detail it needs to bring out the texture needed to balance against the deep blue bowl. It's just not that pleasing visually. |

Who Needs You Guys, Anyway?by GeneralEComment by JiaBob: This one made me stop and think. I like the concept of a loner bird, but frankly, I didn't get it at first. My eye was initially drawn to the high point. All those pigeons and the flaking paint on top of a dingy gray pillar. They are on top, but what good has come of their conquest? It is interesting to think about a bird or a person who doesn't seek what everyone else seeks and who maybe doesn't need their approval. So many people want to be at the top, and will climb any peak because it is there. Of course, many more never make it to the top. Some see no value in the attempt while others plod along like lemmings without giving a thought to the wisdom of the effort. The person who can be happy where he finds himself is the truly independent one. Interesting photo. You said all that and more without words, and I used all these words and said so little. |

Fragile Connectionsby GeneralEComment by Cory: Love these old windowed chips... I have a few in my collection, mostly old BIOSes. I do wish that you had gotten more of the whole thing in focus, but I can see that his was probably a very intentional decision, so I'll assume that you're showing me just what you want to show me... I just love it less than I would if more was in focus I think. |
