Pandering to the Female Voteby GeneralEComment by GeneralE: Originally posted by uabresch: I LIKE it!! So that must be why Jerry Brown looks pudgier and pudgier. He is from Oakland, right?

Well ... he's here now anyway. I'm not quite sure where he's "from" though.
There's also a high-end chocolate works (Scharffen Berger) about 4-5 miles away in Berkeley, and I think Guittard is still in the Bay Area as well. Did I mention this is a popular tourist destination? |

Final Approach, Flaps Downby GeneralEComment by bod: The bird seems too soft and noisy, and the B&W makes it blend into the background too much. A great 'pose' but the bird really needed to be sharper to pop out at the viewer. |

Macrobiotic Dietby GeneralEComment by HBunch: *Critique Club*
While I do appreciate different aproaches to things, I don't think that it works well for this shot in my opinion.
I do have to agree with the others that I think it would have been more effective with the focus more towards the front of the shot, or either have all of the beans in focus.
If you did the focus this way because you thought that the beans in the back were more interesting, than you could have shot from an opposite angle.
Your focus is really good in the back though, we get to see lots of nice detail and sharp lines, and I like that. I'm a huge fan of detail, and we get to see a lot of that here.
I like the arrangement of the beans. I think that you seperated them well except for one little orange bean that sneaked into the white beans near the front. He's bothering me a little cause he's so very much out of place there. shame on him.
Overall, I think it's a great subject for macro.

After the Impactby GeneralEComment by Swashbuckler: Paul, I like this one, too. Here's the rub as I see it, the DOF IS very narrow, with the focused range nearer the back (lower 1/2 seems out of focus to me). I might have liked this a bit better were the focused part more towards the middle. I think I might have gone 7 on this...I see the challenge aspect, but it might not be "enough" for general viewer. After the Impactby GeneralEComment by Imagineer: Yup I like this too, but it's just too much effort for some people to veer off the well trodden path. DOF is a bit too tight but the concept carries it nicely. |
