... Closer Than They Appearby GeneralEComment by JiaBob: Good idea. The lighting doesn't help, though. Your lettering is hard to see in that angle, and the photo is pretty dark overall. Perhaps a lighter image reflected behind the letters would have let them show through more. Also, the partial brand name and the door frame are somewhat distracting. |

One Monkey Short of a Full Benchby GeneralEComment by GeneralE: Originally posted by OneSweetSin: Thank you for the amusing look at see no evil...my question is...is he a monkey Dad? Thank you ... sometimes he does seem like a little monkey boy ... I have to admit this motif isn't entirely original, even for me:
We don't have that many Concord grapes out here (even in Concord!), but that same dusty bluish-purple is also found on the elderberries which grow wild all over. |

LOL...oh Paul this would have worked so much better in a humorous challenge or the portrait challenge...I can see this being titled...My Little Monkey....but seriously yes Isaac was right there is a purple hue to the monkeys...its very mild but it is there...I would say more of a purple undertone to them, however, they are about the same color as concord grapes in the fall....that deep dark purplish blue, so with that said they would fit the challenge.
The backround is a bit busy but I'm sure in this instance you had no control over that....as for the bench being slanted I tend to agree with you it wouldn't look right if it weren't.
Thank you for the amusing look at see no evil...my question is...is he a monkey Dad? Again I like it cause its one of those photos that is just to cute and amusing for most of the votes around here but thanks for the orginality.

One Monkey Short of a Full Benchby GeneralEComment by GeneralE: Originally posted by Bran-O-Rama: Didn't mean any offense about the slanted bench but I thought the subjects in the foreground were the focus of the image. Isn't it much more natural to see a "slanted" or angled roof than an unleveled bench? :/ |
Sorry, I was tired when I wrote that. I'll have to try it and see how it looks. To me, it was obvious that the far rooflines are part of entranceways, and as such would look odd if slanted. But others might not notice.
The other factor is that, although the bench slants, Isaac is somewhat compensating and sitting up pretty straight. There's also a vertical seam in the window right behind his shoulder.
I appreciate the suggestions! My mom was visiting, and I know she'll like it regardless of the roofline :)
Now if I could only have made it purple ... |

The bench is slanted -- it would look far stupider (IMO) to have the bench level and the reflected rooflines slanted ...
Maybe I should re-title this "Now I Feel So Blue" :) |
