Perfectly Roundby franktheyankComment by mchalmers: Though I find this overall to be technically a good photo, here's why I think it scored low:
- The lighting is pretty flat and uninteresting.
- The bottom round stone is supposed to be the subject, but the leaves and plants are drawing my eye more than they should be. This means that the bottom stone just doesn't jump out at me.
- There doesn't seem to be enough of the round stone in the photo to be the main subject.
- A stone, no matter how round, is just not that interesting to look at. ;)
Hope that helps! |

Perfectly Roundby franktheyankComment by bassbone: Leaving you a comment on your image because of a comment I saw in the a thread you posted.
This image does contain stones/ pebbles/ rocks, so it clearly does meet the challenge requirements. But I am afraid that it lacks in the interest category. Part of what separates the low scoring images to those that score well is a creativity in both lighting, composition, and artistic vision.
There appears to be a general lack of sharpness to the image as shown in the image presented - possibly due to the way the image was resized. I am not sure what sharpening technique you are using for web display, but if you would like some pointers on how to improve this, go ahead and PM me.
I hope you don't mind, but here is a quick adjustment of your entry using some USM to sharpen.
This has more punch than your entry from a sharpness point of view, but the image still lacks that certain something that really draws the viewer in and makes them want to linger, if that makes sense. |

Gas Worksby franktheyankComment by Yo_Spiff: Gave this a 6. I liked the details and the use of HDR was perfect, enough to make it pop, but not over the top and cartoony looking. Composition was a bit deadpan, IMO, and I think that is why I didn't rate it any higher. |

Gliding at the Lakeby franktheyankComment by SaraR: People and animals are really hard to pan well, certainly much harder than a solid unbending vehicle! You have made a good attempt at this - I wonder if the woman was skating into the light, with her shadow chasing her, rather than the other way round, if that might have produced a stronger image? The long 'speed streaks' work well, and you certainly get credit for that. |
