The difference in focus between the background and foreground really helps to emphasize the face.

I would've given this a 10 had I voted on that challenge. I guess it helps that I think squirrels are terribly cute (even the semi-rabid ones that I've seen in NYC and Boston Common) and fun to photograph. None of my photos of them have ever come out as awesome as yours though! I love how you've captured this one's personality :) I even like the choice of border! Everything works here, it should've scored higher.

I like the lighting,shallow DOF and composition used for this image.
The light dusting of snow adds to it`s impact also.

extraordinary positive/negative dialogue; first the BG is UP, then the BG is DOWN, it cycles visually. I wish there were better separation between the teeth and the drak BG stripe. A real sleeper of an image.

Okay, if you aren't a nature photographer by trade then you should be! You've got a fantastic eye and so many of the photos I've seen in your portfolio are just breathtaking. I love the detail in the log as well as the little...furry thing, whatever it is, it's cute! :)
