"Darrell. Darrell. Where are you Darrell?" The disembodied and ghostly alien face glared down at the bench where Darrell was supposed to be, and frowned. This was the 3rd time this week. How could they take over the earth if their main source of intelligence kept missing his rendevous? Where was he? If he was playing hockey again...

He waited fifteen minutes, and then, with a scowl, he dispersed back into the ether, knowing that when he finally got a hold of Darrell, there would be hell to pay.

Chuck and Dave always were a couple of strange and unique individuals, but on the day they each consumed a couple of cases of Rockstar Energy Drinks and then showed off just how fast they could beat their wings to win the heart of Cathy, well, it was a day that went on to infamy.

After a long fought battle, it was the Shadow People that raised the trophy above their head. They had claimed the victory, and the 2008 Baja Rally was finally theirs.

In the final test of powers, Matchhead shocked and awed the underworld when he destroyed Pinhead by doing what was considered impossible. He licked the blue out of the flame from a candle.

It was a momentous day.

The professor stopped. He had been following the path for awhile, and it had been a pleasant stroll, but a sudden feeling of unease had come over him just now. He gazed before him, but nothing seemed amiss. The colors of the autumn were engaging, the path dappled with leaves, the sounds of the...

... that's when it hit him. The sounds. At this time of year, there should be all kinds of noise. Birds, small mammals and insects gathering for the coming winter. Breezes rustling the leaves. Falling leaves and branches. However, there was none of that. A complete and utter silence had descended.

Again, he gazed ahead of himself on the pathway, trying to determine what this silence could mean, but he could not. As a small bit of fear threatened to rise up in his chest, the silence was broken. A, song, coming from further along the path. Softly at first, but then rising in volume and tempo. A sweet, melodic lament it seemed, and he could not help but listen to its call. Though the fear was there still, somewhere, it was quickly being buried beneath this siren song, and he found himself inexplicably drawn towards it. Step by step, inch by inch, further and further along the path.

He did not see, nor sense it, when the trees began to close in on him, surrounding him. The air became thick, and suffocating, but he did not feel it. The song was everything. It penetrated him, guided him.

In the end, the music became him, and he became the music. As the forest claimed his body, the music became his only, and final, thoughts. The music claimed his soul.

simply sunset

Kornak watched as the sun went down, causing one of the more beautiful sunsets he could remember to flash across the sky. A single tear streaked down his muddy, wind-burned face as he realized that it was probably the last he'd ever see.

He hadn't meant to anger the family. He hadn't meant for the money to disappear, but it had, and they had taken their revenge on him in this horrific way. Buried to his neck in the stinking, freezing mud of the Chantarak Shore, Kornak could only reflect on what went wrong. He knew his time was short, for when the sun finally set, and the colors bled from the sky, they would come for him. They would be hungry. They would feed.

He watched as the sunset faded, and the tears fell faster. At least he was going to die with this beauty as a final vision. At least there was that.

The colors bled. Darkness fell.

They came.

They fed.

While many people focused on the second coming of Jesus, a little event took place in Athens in the year 2008 that few took note of, but was an important moment nonetheless. For it was the second coming of Heracles, and as Alcmena extended her half-god son into the waiting hands of Zeus, a new era of Olympia was about to begin.

And humanity as we know it was about to end.

This is a fantastic take on American Beauty. Provocative, yet simplistic and touching as well. Nice job.

She stopped to fix her shoe.

She stopped to fix her shoe and then noticed a pebble on the ground. The pebble was reddish, and shiny. She grinned, and picked it up, a prize to be treasured.

She stopped to fix her shoe and found a pebble on the ground and then noticed a bird flitting through the trees. She watched the bird with rapt attention, smiling openly and gaily at its antics until with a final buzz of wings, it flew off.

She stopped to fix her shoe and found a pebble and watched a bird and then laughed as a breeze blew up and scattered the leaves about her in a mini cyclonic mass. She spun with the leaves, her skirt dancing with them, her arms outstretched, and her giggles echoed in the breeze.

She stopped to fix her shoe and found a pebble and watched a bird and danced with the leaves in the breeze.

Then she took her mother's hand, smiled up at her, and left for home.

Such is the child's day.

In the vast wastes of the desert, they came.

They came without warning. They came without fanfare. They came without notice.

The Balloon People from Beta Epsilon IV had begun their attack.
