"Airport" by Arthur Hailey (1968)by HarveyGComment: This image looks like a mistake as an illustration for the book/movie which takes place during a huge snowstorm. Maybe better for "On a Clear Day You Can See Forever...". So it is quite a stretch to see this as inspired by the novel. As an image, yes it is quite sharp and well exposed but lacks any content to stimulate visual or intellectual interest. If you are a pilot, then enjoy your flying and keep shooting. For this one my vote is a 5. |

The Postman Always Rings Twiceby LinMalAngComment: Well, this is a literal representation of the title, but as you know it has nothing to do with the story. Technically, the composition is good but the light is a problem and difficult, admittedly, to fix. My suggestion in cases like this is to convert to black & white and work with the shadows to bring up more detail, say, in his face. I'm giving a 5. |

Charlotte's Webby DanaSComment: The shot is topical but the reflection across the upper section disrupts the visual impression. 5 |

"A River Runs Through It" by Norman Maclean by rjksteschComment: The image works well - good color and processing for an illustrative picture. But in all my years of art school and since, I've never seen, nor can I understand the purpose of this particular border, which becomes a serious distraction for me. without it, the shot is a 7. With the border, it is a 6. |

To the Lighthouse (Virginia Woolf)by KroburgComment: Good shot but the point of view is not quite right since they characters approach the lighthouse from the sea. But at least there is an appropriate background from which they could be coming... The image works well as a layered land/seascape although the color seems more imaginary than real - which might be your intention. 6 |

Piercing by Ryu Murakamiby P-A-U-LComment: You want a classic novel? I don't need no classic novel. I like the in your face image but there's no association with the modern novel as far as I can tell. Image could be a 6 in another challenge. Here its only a 5. |

Brave New World - Aldous Huxleyby DamonComment: This looks more like the garden of eden than the utopian world conceived by Aldus Huxley in the book as I remember it. But still is is a well executed photo with a more generalized utopian ideal nicely presented. |

The Bell Jarby grahamgatorComment: Haven't read it but this looks like a bell jar, and the butterfly might represent something about Sylvia Plath's spirituality, and the shot is well done. Giving the benefit of the doubt (due to my ignorance) my vote is a 6 |
