The way I saw it was the overlaid image is the view into the water, to the stones in the stream bed. Then I saw that posthumous had also seen it that way, so presumably that's all wrong. Except alas I think he's right in this case, which makes the title so apt. The mood, for me, is of those late 19th century 'art' studies of sturdy ladies in bathing costumes.
