I didn't comment originally, but I thought I'd address dipaulk here and offer an explanation as to why I voted a 6.

While I love the emotion in this photograph, I feel that it suffers a little technically. The highlights on the girl's face are really over-exposed, and constitute a major hotspot. I feel that it also looks a little artifically smooth (whether this is a product of the defused glow or not, I'm not sure, but in voting I didn't know that, and simply felt it *looked* over-smooth). I also feel that the crop was too much on the girl's side, cutting off her hair, and ending the dynamic a little too abruptly.

Anyway, just a couple little things, that other commenters also picked up on a little bit. It's a wonderful shot, you probably love it a lot, but I think it just got hit a bit much in comparison to some shots above it, and 121 out of 638 is a wonderful placing.

As people mentioned, too soft a focus, but you definitely deserved a higher placing than this!! Crazy. I loved it, gave you a 7 :)

One of my favorites of the challenge, I was one of the 9s :)

Love your sense of humor! Deserved higher. I look forward to seeing you in Humor II!

I think you definitely got the "I'm tired of seeing babies/children" hit.. (I think my shot got it too).. but 119 is nothing to sniff at!

This is such a fantastic, wonderfully candid portrait.. and.. I'll never tire of seeing babies/children when done so beautifully.

I don't know whether to score this lower because I can see color.. or higher because it's a unique view of the challenge..

Damn.. this is almost exactly what I was trying to accomplish but couldn't. (I didn't have color though). I'd love to know what you used for a surface/background.

Just want to thank everyone for all the very positive comments!

To Snackwells: Har har :)

To the other couple of people on my title: I like to have fun with my titles, which you'll see if you peruse my other challenge entries. "My Two Dads" just isn't entertaining enough for me :)

Last, but not least, the technicality of this photo. Yes, it's not the best. Nobody feels worse about this than me. Unfortunately, I had a 15 minute window with which to shoot. As Laurie said, I don't have all that shiny fab equipment, so I had to make do with the lighting I had, and I had to run back and forth from the camera a few times to make the shot work.. (was working with self-timer, no remote).. so it was interesting to say the least. The fact that I got it to look *this* good is wonderful enough :) (Oh, and Breeanna was being a little brat about it too.. lol. She was giving her goofy smile too much, which is why I finally just had her look up.)

Anyway, that's why it's not very technically great.. but we use and do what we can don't we? I'd love to do this photo all over again, only with proper models, and a good hour of time to spend on it. Maybe one of these days.. I'll surely share when I do.

Ciao! See you next Sunday! (I'm skipping Time Passing and Authority. A little rest is in order.)

hahaha.. Remind me after the challenge is over and I'll show you the version I did of a shot like this (your's is way better). Good job with the lighting.. and the composition is fantastic.

Gorgeous to look at, but I don't really feel the time passing here. It more conveys time *stopping* to me.

I simply cannot *WAIT* to see how you pulled this off.. Make up? Hair dye? It's brilliant! I had the same type of idea, but just couldn't think of a way to pull it off.

Very well executed. I love the negative space, really adds an element to the photo. To me, it says, "I await my future, but I have a lot of it to go through first".

10 from me.

(Is this Colda? Looks like his profile pic.)
