| 04/23/2005 09:04:17 PM | fofinha_flowers.jpgby NunoComment: These are all lacking a certain kind of lighting that brings more dynamic color out. They're nice shots, but just seem a little flat to me. As for hints and tips, I don't really have many. I tend to just shoot from my heart, and let the camera guide me most of the time. I like to try and shoot my subject in the shade, or indoors, on a sunny day, where I can have the sun play the subject through an open door, or a window, or from the side, and I always shoot at a -1 EV. Other than that, the old stand-by always works.. practice, practice, practice. |

| 04/20/2005 02:39:42 PM | With only a pipe for company.by zarniwoopComment: I'd have to say, trying to be a "mass voter".. that:
a) The shot is too busy. Your composition has the viewer wandering all willy-nilly without too much of a basis for grounding. The pipe doesn't stand out enough, and the title is our only link to what the focus should be.
b) It simply doesn't look abandoned enough. I mean, it *does* look run down and neglected, but not enough that one could look at this for all of the 2.82828112002 seconds that a voter looks at it and say, yah.. this building has definitely been vacated permanently.
c) While *I* like it, the desaturation in your colors probably led to a bit of a disinterest as well.
So, there you have it.. the 3 main reasons why I would say your image did pretty poorly.. the fourth, of course, is the old stand-by.. you just never can tell with voters. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 04/20/2005 02:29:37 PM | Transparent monitorby cbonsallComment: would have been much more convincing if you'd have taken more time to get the color-balance a little closer between the shot on the monitor and the surrounding area.
I wanted to do something like this for a challenge myself, but just couldn't make it work with a CRT.. so kudos on getting a pretty good illusion going. (except, of course, for the color balance issue) |
| 04/20/2005 02:15:00 PM | Just Another Dropby trnqltyComment: You're right.. it is. Did you hue shift? Whichever you did, something has caused some serious quality loss in the extreme ends of the toning. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

| 04/20/2005 02:12:33 PM | Spring Footby Picture ThisComment: This is really great! Great DOF work, the floweres and toes are tack-sharp, the heel drops off just a touch, which really helps lead you down into the body and sweepeing back up. They cyan, while a *touch* overpowering, sells the flowers, and the composition is different, but strong. Not just another flower shot.. which gives you high marks. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 04/20/2005 02:10:37 PM | Spring arrive, Kittens bornby mkirdalComment: Your white balance and focus are really off here. Your AF may have been tricked by the low lighting, or you were perhaps going hand-held with too slow a shutter speed? It looks as though you were shooting with tungsten or flourescent lighting with white-balance set to daylight as well, but I can't be sure, of course. Too much of a yellow/orange cast.
Cute, funny composition though. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
