This shot holds little appeal for me I'm afraid. The subject has her back turned on the viewer which immediately puts up a barrier. This coupled with the railing and quite a bland, colourless scene beyond renders the shot quite inert.

If she had been standing turned 3/4 of the way towards us looking out to the water's edge beyond it would have led the eye into the shot. You had some quite bright light here so I would have stopped down a bit to around f6-8, focused 2/3 out thus attaining some richer tones and longer DOF. At the moment all we have to look at is her well focused back!

Sorry not to be more positive.

This is an adequate shot but not particularly captivating. It's a nice time of day but you have underexposed areas which look a little heavy. Some sensitive dodge and burn would have been appropriate here - as well as some more time spent proof reading your title!

The lighting here is tangible - a worthy winner. One of very few shots I can think of on this site where the light has such a strong role to play. There's a shot of Sydney Bridge in my favourites that has a similarly impactful vibe.

This is a great concept for the challenge. Very nice indeed.

Its weaknesses though are what have separated it from ordinary and greatness. In particular the lighting (flash) has killed the sense of 3rd party observation. It's plain dull to see light face-on like this I'm afraid. You would have greatly enhanced this image by using directional light - perhaps from above & behind, maybe softening it so that it looked liek the light from a kitchen in the giant's home.

You may also have tried a narrow DOF to focus on the golden egg. Well composed subject too.

Cheers
Jon

Very cute subject here. To get the negatives out of the way though - it relies heavily on the title to succeed in the challenge and outside of it I doubt anyone would guess the challenge without knowing. The pool of light is also very hot causing blown highlights. This is indeed a toad by the way and shouldn't one kiss a frog for a prince? Not me though - I'm heterosexual. ; )

Good composition but I bet you could have got closer which would have improved the shot greatly, getting the viewer more involved.

This is one of those shots that will probably be ignored or loved. As an image it's a sweet enough shot of the cat but as a challenge entry I wonder what you would have expected. Personally I think the literal link to the Fairy tale would not go down well with voters but perhaps it may be just too unimaginative in its execution. If the cat was in aboot it may have rated better!

It's well composed and the items arranged nicely, although the flat lighting and bland colour has not helped much.

Cheers
Jon

Some good design in the composition here - I simply like this image although i can see why it slipped a little in the challenge - nowhere near enough like a stock photo!! ; )
