This is a very effective use of this treatment. I do think it's fairly inappropriate for this challenge since travel guides don't typically use this effect, but I have seen stuff like it in travel brochures. It is taking leave of photographic integrity somewhat, but if you're going to use the effect then this is a very good way to implement it.

You've probably got a very decent photo under the FX, so I'll add my voice to the doubtless many comments asking to see the original. I love the women's pose and the composition is superb. I bet this scores well despite the treatment as it is quite compelling.

Actually, I've never voted an artificially treated shot so highly.

Dramatic subject but there is some haloing from the shad/hilite filter. Good choice of black & white.

Beautiful scene if a little devoid of features to attract travellers.

This shot's interest is mainly thanks to the subject and not your choice of angle, etc. You could have crouched and got some more foreground in since the sky is quite bland but the river very interesting. Well composed otherwise and they are lovely windmills.

Great capture and an intriguing subject. The shadow over the sculpture is a bit annoying but it's well composed.

Great use of the slow shutter speed to achieve some very appealing effects in the sky and water. The sacrifice is the hot spots from the overesposed lights but it's not too bad. Great comp and a lovely shot.

There's some bizarre lighting going on in the sky here but I relly like the shot. Great focus and well exposed. It's perhaps missing a key focal point as my tends to run out of the back of the shot. Well compsoed too and a lovely time of day.
