Living Historyby SkipComment: This is just great! Very exciting colours and St Pauls rises impressively from the bustle. I can't help feeling that the scene could only be improved by the presence of a crane. Still, you can't have everything!

Daffodils, Washington Stateby jbsmithanaComment: A strong 'treated' sky (a bit too dramatic for me) but the rows of crops are just too super-sharp. The scene is nice enough but lacks that potent focal point which was so mucha trademark of AA. |

Ode to Mcdonald Lake by Ansel Adamsby NinjaMomComment: Nice scene but lacks a distinct focal point so prominent in AA's work. Image tones are quite narrow with some hot spots in the whites and editing is a little obvious in places. |

Leavesby ladpupmoeComment: Good tones, but I'd have cloned out the spots and debris. DOF is a little narrow for the fronds in the foreground. |

Distant Treeby mpalitangComment: You've actually composed this well, but you've missed some key considerations that would elevate your 'snapshot' away from the ordinary.
Firstly, due to this being a challenge about a naturalist/photographer, it's important to feature a subject that shows some unusual features or at least some normal features shown in an unusual way. Here, you are too far away to achieve much detail and the weather and lighting is flat and dull. Therefore it would be better to get much closer and show some textures and form rather than a conventional landscape that most people can see from their car window. The base of that tree looks quite interesting so I'd have run into that field and got a close, ground-level view looking up at its branches, with a long depth of field. Ideally, you would need a tripod and a longish exposure so that you can get everything in focus.
Additionally the focus is quite soft so it'll be voted low as a result. Sorry, but I hope I've helped in some way for your future challenges.
Cheers

Finally.....by Beach_melComment: Very natural shot all round - the light, experessions of love - and the composition is great. There's a tangible bridge between you both, formed only by your eyes. As good a reason as any to find a shot for a challenge.

4pm sun strikes mountainsby kevrobertsonComment: Well that makes two of you! I have to say that I do prefer the other shot of this lovely place. Tones are not broad enough for AA and that mass at the front really needed some light on it as it's gone black - not an approach AA would have taken. |

a photograph is made, not taken.by fstopopenComment: A lovely subject spoiled only by too much prominent editing. Tonal range is not broad enough (too much mid grey) for an AA, but the subject would have been convincing if you hadn't lost the top, which is a real breaker for this image. I love gnarly would like this and I'd love to see it re-shot without the special FX and a more dynamic range. |

Summit of Rannoch Moorby TallblokeComment: Lovely scene with some decent foreground interest. Light is strong and effective. Foreground mass is too dark and - I don't often say this(!) - the sky could have been burned some more to add some depth and balance. AA factor is quite strong but it lacks some tonal range to truly reflect his style. |

Old Rugged Oakby SandyPComment: Nice subject and composition. Editing a bit crude with some prominent haloing round tree. AA factor not particularly strong. |
