| 08/20/2018 10:18:03 PM | Indifferent by AmmieComment: I love this. I am a center person, mostly all my photos are centered, because I am told it is not right, it is not the way of photography, it is not done. SO I do it 9 times out of 10. So I LOVE this photo, it is so nearly centered. just a slight crop on the left, would have made it a perfect centered crop. But that is NOT why I love this sot so much, The reason is, your title. It is perfect. You have the overgrown, need to be sheared sheep in perfect unison at the front, desperately grabbing at the small nodes of grass. And in perfect clarity and sharpness you have them leading them to your man, who is dressed in modern day clothing and shoes. A total contrast to the sheep, a modern type of twist. The modern twist, is the lack of interest. Not the case if this was his livelihood. There is a whole story here,. .Maybe for this challenge, turning it BW would have worked for you, and using those contrast an saturation levels in colour, before turning it BW would have made this a totally powerful shot. And a total center crop. I hold my hand/hand flat or sideways to a photo and see if a crop would work better, maybe try it, it may change your opinion, if you would like, I can show you a crop that I like better , but then again it is ONLY what I like, not other people. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 08/20/2018 08:31:59 PM | The Deckhand by aznymComment: I love centered objects. I am all about centered objects. Pretty much all my photography is centered. But for once, I do think that if you had cropped this at the biggest right hand plank, the man being slightly off centered would have really added a whollop to the photo, I always hold my hand up, flat, or on the side when looking at a photo, to see how it would look cropped. Most of the time, I am still about the center, as it is not popular and many people do not like it. Maybe try it and see what you think? It does help in giving a new perspective to a shot. And of course , please ignore me if you think I am talking drivel (which is most of the time!!! ) | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 08/20/2018 08:27:29 PM | our little corner of the worldby skewsmeComment: This would have been a pretty perfect story. Very graphic in my opinion if this was BW. The tape, if in focus and the couple by the stream in focus, then a softening , Gaussian blur around them, with more contrast and possible neutral and blacks in selective colour. Would have made this a terrible story of loss and grief. One that resonates to anyone and everyone as it's leading lines are the tape to the couple. This, to me, ((and only to me, is how I see and interpret this shot))) would have made this a story of humanitarian photography that everyone can relate to. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 08/20/2018 08:20:11 PM | Just happy to be hereby markwileyComment: This is my opinion only and please PM to take it down if you want. But this could have been so much more, You have, here two very interesting ladies. You could make a stellar story, boosting that contrast and structure, making it grainy, you could have really shown each and every wrinkle and freckle with them holding the smooth bag of fresh vegetables. Make the whites of the dress pop a little more , bring some life into the clothes and arms/faces. They have seen a life, let it tell it in their expression and age. But never ever show them the end picture , they would kick your arse for making their stories told on their bodies. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 08/20/2018 08:14:28 PM | Is this the end or beginningby cdr1401Comment: This is only my opinion. But you do have a good photo here. But for me, it is just a bunch of graves/tombs with no story. There is no drama, it is just, 'oh I am waling along, this might look good in BW' If there was more drama, this would take the eye. More contrast, more structure, more grain, dodge that Angel in the background, bring out the details of the marble, the cast iron. Have a story in our pictures, the most prominent grave is Ford, so make him moody, bring out the water stains and the age, make it look almost neglected. john Fest and Bow Fest are marble, so look cleaner, could they have been the better people with there whiter than white tombs, is the angel looking over them. Just playing with saturated colours, selective colours, brightness and neutral colours etc, could have made this whole thing pop,. But then again, I am a bit of a drama girl and love a story. So ignore me if I hae overstepped with this comment. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 08/20/2018 04:48:21 PM | habitby NiallOTuamaComment: If this does not take Blue, then I will be shocked. This is perfect. You have the humble, devoted Nun, with her hands riddled with age and swollen knuckles. Her posture screams of her being bent over in prayer for many years. The holding of the tin for collection. Getting the scraps of change from people. You have a person here who does transcend time, and we all know exactly what, who and how she lives her life and the purpose of life. Then there is the modern world all around her, to me, it looks so desolate compared to her. Such hurrying around, so little clothes, such disregard, almost feeling frivolous. I think this is a perfect shot. As in my mind, I see the Nun, and all sorts of stories come to mind for her backstory. This is a 10 and beyond. Well done. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
