Flushhhhh!by macoxComment: Clever choice of subject; in the context of the challenge it's interesting, although outside of it not so much. Very clean toilet, very dirty-looking fingernail (and what looks like a papercut as well); I suppose in this case that my eye keeps going back to the finger is a good thing, however. |

Pump Up the Volume by jab119Comment: Do I want to know how many glasses you broke shooting this? I'm curious if the method of breaking really was sound -- I presume the thing on the left is part of a speaker although it's hard to tell absent larger context (I had to think about whether an uncovered speaker would look like that). What are the bubbles (or bubble-like artifacts) throughout? Those are somewhat distracting, but I have no idea if they're unavoidable. |

melodious music boxby camelotnorthComment: Oh, neat. I had a very simple one of these as a kid, and I was always fascinated by how it worked, so to see a macro shot of the workings is very nostalgic for me. Which translates to "great choice of subject". |

Chiaroscuro (Sleep Dep Version)by qachykComment: The tough part was trying to get the shadow so that it seemed to 'grow' from the crate, which was my intent. Different angles gave a markedly different shadow, unsurprisingly. I also didn't have much physical room to play with -- there's only about a foot and a half between those and my desk -- which definitely limited where I could take the shot from and not get something else in the frame.
I do think I could move it somewhat, though, which if I decide to try to do another version I will. If nothing else, I suspect I could get the center point to be the top right corner of the crate and keep the shadow angle.
Oh, regarding lighting... I did take this without flash because the shadow is eradicated by flash, but my camera does not do low-light well, unfortunately. Between that and the fact that I didn't really have much leeway about where to put the lamp I think a try for better lighting conditions will have to wait. I might be able to get a brighter lamp or bulb, but I don't currently have either. Both these things are fixable in time, though -- the new camera is already on the 'save up for' list.
Clearly if I'm going to take a lot of photos, I need a larger apartment so I have more room to arrange things. :) |

Russian Standardby GalinaComment: Mmm. Vodka. As everyone knows, vodka is best experienced when frozen, making your colour choice absolutely perfect as it is reminiscent of ice. I am not sure if it would have worked better against a dark background or not -- the bottle does stand out, if not as much as I would have thought. I think a little less blue-tone shadow/refaction on the left center edge would have made it stand out better as well. |

Moistureby magnetic9999Comment: It's very nice to see something besides the majority B&W and sepia tones, and this looks very interesting in purple. It's also a good flora shot. |

Orderville Canyonby dsidwellComment: Interesting rock striation, but I think a dark/light pattern would have suited better. I do like the lighting overall, how it fades into shadows off-center, though. |

Past it's Primeby ArtifactsComment: Interesting angle, but the topic matter doesn't grab me much. It meets the challenge, but that's about all.
Oh, small grammar nit: "its", not "it's". (No effect on score, certainly, but it's one of my pet peeves.) |

Behind the Screenby PaigeComment: I hate to not leave a comment when I vote, but this really doesn't grab me and I can't much explain why. |
