For the challenge, it may have helped to crop tighter on the left to eliminate the palms and it would also offset your subject. It would have the left side ever so slightly cut off but, imho, would improve the composition and you could also slightly straigten the horizon in the process. Congratulations on your high score and placement.

I didn't vote on this but I agree with the commenters.
The hand placement is awkward and makes it appear to be more of a snapshot. Great b&w, though, and it looks like he's doing a great job. :)
