Poetry In Linesby DCNUTTERComment: Another placement where I disagreed with the mass appeal. I really like these shots that I call "semi-abstract". You can easily identify what they are, but they concentrate the viewer on the shapes, colors, and details, rather than the object as a whole. I gave this a 7.
Perhaps some selective noise reduction could have helped with smoothing out that sky a bit. The S5 has a lot of great features, but it isn't the most silky smooth camera out there. |

Disco Divaby kingskingdomComment: I'm surprised it placed so low in the pack. Perhaps a bit too abstract for mass appeal? I gave it an 8 and I see the commenters average was quite high. I would call this a successful entry that hit it's target audience. |

Skybridgeby LeoComment: Good strong placement! I should revisit my own skybridge again. Perhaps with a smaller camera to attract less attention. |

Stackedby mBastinComment: I had thought this was an intentional desaturation. the other aspects of the photo were done well enough that I was pretty sure you meant it to be that way. I suspected the look would not go over well. I gave it a 6, however. |

Fence Lineby cowboy221977Comment: I gave this a 5, but I think I waffled a bit and almost gave it a 4. I suspect other voters are being harder on it. I see some effort to create an interesting composition, however my eye does not go where I think you intended. The large expanse of shrubbery is brighter than the fence and draws my eye instead. A fence around a home is a difficult subject in the first place, as it not terribly interesting by it's nature. A different angle perhaps, or a view from the outside might have helped. Or a skywards view of the fence, shot from the ground. (I'm a big fan of getting really low for a perspective shot.)
Working with just this shot, I'd think perhaps a tighter crop on the fence could benefit the composition, using the "rule of thirds" and some adjustments (such as curves, saturation, contrast & sharpening) could help to pull out some more detail and visual pop from the subject. |

Intimacyby davisambroseComment: I like the color and the lighting. Very strong contrasts, almost a still life painting. One problem I had with voting this challenge, however, was the description "create a scene using only fruits and vegetables." My idea of a scene is something more than a still life, but I am seeing many straightforward food shots in this challenge, without what I consider to be a scene involving it. I have been giving such entries a 5. It may be my own interpretation that is faulty, so I will not give them a lowball vote, but I can't give them the higher votes either. I was ready to put this entry in the same category, except that your title pointed out a fitting subtlety that I had not noticed right off, so it got a 6 from me. |

T A P E Dby Art RoflmaoComment: Looking forward to the explanation of why I can rarely find a pair of scissors around my house. Except for the once or twice a year, when a dozen of them show up in my pencil cup at once. (Mating and reproducing?)
BTW, If you use my idea, I get 20% royalties on the profits, including points from any challenge entries it inspires. |
