Have you heard the news today?by PaulComment: Nice going on this one Paul. It got an 8 out of me. Nice to see it was widely appreciated. I've appreciated getting some of your "unconventional eye" comments and I hope you enjoyed the payback of a Grog comment. |

A Darkened Dayby KenzieKupcakeComment: Congratulations on your first entry and your first ribbon!
Ok, so it was the brown ribbon, but that leaves nowhere to go but up, and you did get some good feedback. Freestudies are always tough anyway, so you picked a hard one for your first challenge. In a freestudy, you have to totally blow some people away just to get them to say "eh, it's ok." Looking forward to seeing what you do in the future. |

Flying lessonsby MelethiaComment: I thought this could be one of yours! My favorite shot out of the whole challenge. Glad to see it connected with others as well. A well deserved high average. |

Gray seal pupby canyoncatComment: This seems a little soft on the detail, with some faint pixelation around some edges so I looked at the file size. Your file size is only 17k and you could have used up to 300k for this challenge. There is excessive JPEG compression taking away a lot of good detail. Compression kills detail. Always use the least compression you can get away with and still come in under challenge limits. |

Soar!by JayneRyanComment: Watch your JPEG compression. Your file size is only 20k and I see compression artifacts all over the place in this. Compression kills detail. Always use the least compression you can get away with and still come in under challenge limits. |

heianby bspurgeonComment: A landscape that comes off as an abstract. The simplicity of the scene really works and I like the very subtle texture. My eye just keeps moving around. Normally that is a problem meaning my eye can't find the subject, but in this case, it is just taking it all in. Well done. I'm going to hazard a guess that this might be a bspurgeon entry. |

bighorn sheepby bigskyeyeComment: What a cool shot of a handsome animal. Looks like a hahn23 effort. If this is not from Richard, then please know to take that as a compliment. |

Conflicting Standardsby GeneralEComment: Great way to make a strong statement. In my opinion, a large part of photography is in recognizing the interesting shot when it presents itself. I'm afraid however, that I find the execution of this to be somewhat flat looking and not well composed. The biggest issue is way too much empty sky at the top that does not do anything for the scene. I'd suggest cropping in a lot closer to focus the eye on the elements that this is about. A bit of tweaking to make it pop a bit might help as well. I do think you've got some great material here to work with. |
