Cool Waterby scrooslooseComment: Very nice capture. The crop seems a bit off to me, but I do not know what the surrounding area looked like, so I don't know that I can recommend anything different. |

Frozen Stiffby JeanComment: The red berries (?) really add to this shot. I think moving the subject over to the right some, so that those two aren't chopped in half would have made the composition feel a little more balanced to me. |

Beatin' The Heatby sherComment: That looks like fun. I like the strong vertical "motion" established by the fountains and posts. |

Cookedby RefocusedComment: Yum. The focus looks a little off, but I would imagine that is because of the "movement" of the flames in the background, or the heat being emitted. Good composition/framing |

'Nuff Saidby alanfreedComment: Good dof and I like how the lines lead into the picture. I think the egg either needs to be bigger (maybe get closer to it) or further in the frame. |

I'm ccccold!by ursulaComment: Good sense of humor, the slight blue cast helps to add to the effect I think. My only suggestion would be to find a more uniform colored blanket. At first I thought it was burlap (scratchy). |

Baby Brotherby greenem2Comment: CRITIQUE CLUB CRITIQUE

(Sorry I didn't get to this during the regular "critique" week, some things came up unexpectantly).
I simply love this and I suspect the parents/grandparents/guardians are looking forward to putting it on the wall. Though his head is centered, the body going out of the lower right really gives it a dynamic feeling and gives the eyes somewhere to go. The dof works well here to focus the attention on the boy, and not the background. I also like the bw, and I think the softness is okay, but do think it might be interesting if you have any with sharper focus.
I really can't think of anything I would recommend to make this better, as I think it is truly effective the way it is. Very nice work and best to you in future challenges.

As I mentioned during the challenge, I really like the composition of this shot. It very strong catches the eyes and then leads them through the frame. I guess, technically, "leading lines" are supposed to lead "somewhere," but I like it when they just lead me out of the frame -- kinda like a joke on the viewer almost. I also like the way the shadows provides a dark "line" through the frame breaking of the blue tones.
Technically, the focus, lighting, etc is good. Don't know that I can comment on that a lot. I guess what may have been a "downer" for some people is that, while it is technically a good shot, and compositionally interesting (at least for me), it lacks that certain element that gives it a "personality" to the general population. Though this structure may mean a lot to you, it just doesn't convey that emotion to the average person and pull them in. Perhaps if you had put someone or something in the foreground (a sad woman, a man sitting thoughtfully) in the foreground so that it had a more emotional subject, more people would have been intrigued by this shot.
If you have questions, or comments, please feel free to PM me.
Best to you in future challenges.

HM - Unpleasant Answerby eloiseComment: I like the composition (though the subject choice doesn't appeal that much), but the exposure seems off somehow. It is bright enough, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of "detail" visible. (Of course, that might be a good thing) |
