I think it's a fine example of HDR. One thing I see in this image, which I've seen in my own attempts, is the odd phenomenon when there's a straight vertical line...such as the utility pole just to the left of the bright pink (cherry?) tree. One side seems to take the dark value, while the opposite goes for the highlights. HDR app developers, please take note!

lol, yes, I usually do. Was doing the experimentation/Mad Scientist/forgetful newbie thing. I was at the wide end of my 18-55, and at f/11 through f/22 the DoF probably didn't change too significantly.

I love the duotone sepia and your composition, but I have to echo Joanna's comment...one drawback to HDR seems to be the introduction of noise. Neat Image is the plug-in I prefer, although Noise Ninja and Noiseware are also fine products.

Very cool. I might try to toss a mask on the tonemapped layer and do a little selective erasing, a la this guy's HDR tutorial.

Nice! I used to walk past there daily on my way to work. Although I like this effect, I think it's this sort of 'cartoon' feel that turns many people off HDR.
