Also, I do not recall ever having seen such a creative and apt use of noise in a digital photograph. > 9

The tonal range here is quite satisfying, the black (and near-black) foreground providing a perfect window (at approx. 1/3rd of total area) which successfully proliferates colour and detail right down to the texture of the wall, while preserving just the right amount of light (foreground and small light at top centre). The spatial perspective also adds considerable depth to this pic. If I strained to find fault, I'd note minimal overexposure at the lightest parts in the background (the overstuffed dumpster and, possibly, the pipe (top right 3rd) and wall texture (top left third).
Personally, the aesthetics of this picture appeal to me very much. Message edited by author 2005-07-22 19:56:29. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

| 08/05/2003 11:53:18 PM | The Bridge on the River Kwaiby wetlandComment: I find this capture a little difficult to comment on.
The way it is rendered the viewer seems confronted by four almost disparate planes: the foreground, although apparently rich with crisply turbulent is almost unintelligible due to (what appears to be) excessive sharpness. The fog obsuring both water reflection and the feet of things (bridge pile-on, tree and shore) appears wonderfully silky with a nice tonal gradation from front to back. The bridge structure is partially obliterated (central sections) by processing (?). The treed shoreline (background left), however, pales as if placed under a milky film, when compared to the foregorund. It appears, as if differing post-processes were applied to parts of the image. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 08/05/2003 11:21:56 PM | Left Behindby SonifoComment: Not having seen this movie... the image, outside of the movie context, is not quite credible. The artifacts are just too ostentiously chosen and laid out, leaving out any indication of chaos or oversight, i.e. of those things that often accompany tragedy. The emphasized proximity of camera and photographer, also, contributes to this effect or feeling.
The lighting, although kept appropiately dark, still clearly outlines the 'busier' (and redundant) outlines of furniture and/or objects (top left and centre).
The pose (communicating despair and grief) could be greatly concincing, IMO, if the subject were 'diminished' in the same way that tragedy diminishes man. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

The inclusion of the (busy) background is a little distracting (could have been panned at shigh shutter speed?). The image is also precariously close to being oversharpened. Still... a great moment well captured. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Ps: The inclusion of the two aliens (red and blue) not only provides a good size reference but also an apt visual anchor. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Did you know that the decisive battle accredited to him, actually took place two hours north of here? |
| 07/30/2003 09:24:11 PM | Needleworkby ToddhComment: This, to me, is an excellent example of what can be done with a (relatively) plain and familiar subject. The effects, although marked, are kept subordinated to the aesthetic demands of the capture.
What's most striking, to me, are the luminously rich tones against and the critically perfect sharpness apparently achieved by impeccable post-processing. Yet, even the composition would not endure a less sensitized eye. > 8 | Photographer found comment helpful. |
