At the beachby Arti-ElviComment: I don't like the border at all and love the photo.
The image outline appears bold enough for an orbituary, the margin suggests a card available on gift shop racks. The image is hard and gritty, the border light and pretty cutting the strong horizontal baselines and dissolving it into pure white. The white in the image, however, alludes to sky, light and nothing earthy. |

Messiah Complexby blackenedwhiteComment: If one perceived the crucifixion in bad taste, one could not have the same words for an image alluding to the event.
When we, categorically, reject a creation, let us, at least, substantiate the condemnation. |

Composing The Shotby rob_franklinComment: All in all, I'd agree with stdavidson: a worth-while image. The dusty shaft of light is particularly live and dynamic. I'm a little less content with the discernible Neat Image effects (edges of ceiling boards and support strut), especially in combination with sharpening (see the haloed outline of the photographer on the left). |

Filed By Authorby WarbyComment: The image suffers a clockwise tilt and would probably benefit from a bolder exposure either via larger aperture or boosted contrast, depending on temperament and intent. Compositionally, the inclusion of the door along the left is allotted too much width considering the lack of discernible detail here and the reduced space left to accommodate the 'subjects'.
The idea, the potential for composition and the antonymous perfection of pose/ facial expressions 'shelved' here are surprising, however. The deadpan irony of the given title also could not be better for this image.
When presented with images like this, I am hard pressed in a scale between 1 and 10. As it is, I feel voters may not be able to fine-tune their vote to accommodate the varying qualities of this shot... |

Made to be brokenby LalliSigComment: An excellent portrait with a wonderful integration of the many elements that make such a thing. Onions or not, both pose and expression are not only convincing but astounding given the Mona Lisa-esque blend.
In variance with another commentator (below), I especially appreciate the title, which attributes nothing external to the image except the idea that suffering is universal, which clearly places this photograph in the public realm. Message edited by author 2006-02-28 12:13:16. |
