Captured From Another Timeby SandyPComment: This is one of the best portraits I have seen for a long time (and not only within the context of this site). The choices made here are as strong and profoundly artistic as the resulting image.
I also appreciate this entry for the unique aesthetics of the model and the way in which this image appears to be ordered and governed by reason and the senses, not only hers but also the photographer's (yes, despite the cigarette and, ironically in a small part, because of it).
The intelligence, spirit and presence created here are, however, somewhat diminished by a title which, IMO, cannot do justice.
(This is the only 10 I've given an image for at least a year or two). |

Bovine Burlesque by whiteroomComment: The shot leaves me with the same expression as 'mom's'. Fabulous with a fitting title too. |

Qby Art RoflmaoComment: A 'Bauhaus', at least in perspective. I like it. |

Well, I wouldn't call it 'perfect' or give it a 10 (coz I feel light and tonalities can be improved upon), but, otherwise, posthumous has it perfectly right: this is a photographer's photo, a classic (something that just won't go stale), really, with a poise of a composition.
A remarkable shot, exemplary and fit for study. |

WaterColorsby MWittComment: By far, the most apt use of HDR to my senses and thus a complete and quite satisfying image rather than just an effect. I'd have this shot in first place. |

ubiquitousby ursulaComment: What intricate finery! And the light, constrained in the highlights, yet still distinctively revealing a myriad of black, instant by instant!
O, can we have this the size of two or three heads hung at eye-level? :-D
-The title, too, encourages to take nothing for granted and this increases the overall range of this shot.
Fine eye and sense you show here with a craft so appropriate and dedicated, it's invisible. Message edited by author 2006-11-08 13:19:36. |

low key lunchby saintaugustComment: Delicious light/textures/materials/geometry and the little fact that someone wanted a view with his lunch...
The rest, really, is negative space, isn't it? I'd render it black, and perhaps crop to taste (leaving a fair amount of the dark), loosing the pipe in the fore?
Not a dull port, Jeff. (I'm in minimal comment mode) ;-) |

Your portfolio reveals a keen eye for composition within a good range of common themes and genres, not necessarily with this image, but overall. I appear to keep coming back here, waiting for something you're so, so close to achieve.
Forgive my presumptueux for a little conviction... :-) Message edited by author 2006-10-06 11:49:44. |
