I agree, this would, effectively, add a new dimension to the image, but I'm afraid that by doing something like this we'd end up with a genre other than reportage.

Remarks: Despite the toned-down brightness/contrast, highlight details are lost in the white shirt. On the other hand, the arboreal silhouette drawn here works such wonderful magic both aesthetically and compositionally, I cannot help but imagine the dancers as proxy via the shadows they throw. Their, perhaps, unavoidable inclusion (as sources for their shadows) strikes me as nearly redundant in this context.

Given the interest and quality of competing entries in this challenge, there can be no contest, IMO. It is and remains, in my view, the only photograph to consider.
