Tulipta - Tulips Bloomby rj324Comment: Greetings from the Critique Club :)
Hi RJ...
Nice closeup of the center of a tulip... I have given up on trying to photograph reds like this with my 707. Maybe the 717 does a better job of this :)
Your composition here seems to be fine... I prefer the off center perspective you chose and the square framing works well with that choice.
Unfortunately, I don't have a lot to offer you on this photo as far as critique is concerned. This particulary type of shot is a favorite of many and you have executed it as well as any.
Keep up the good work :)

Deep Purpleby BigSmilesComment: Greetings from the Critique Club :)
Hi BigSmiles...
I believe, as I mentioned in my original comment, that this is a very appealing photo. The most striking part of it for me is the nice mesh between the purple and yellow color on the flower petals. The yellow center really pops out nicely against the purple surroundings.
I also prefer dark backgrounds on most flower shots. It does a wonderful job of isolating the flower from an environment that could otherwise be distracting in various ways.
One of the compositional elements I particularly enjoy in this image is the way the upper rear petals seem to form 'wings' for this flower. That element almost gives the front facing elements of the flower some facial characteristics... maybe a purple angel in flight :)
The image is slightly grainy... probably a result of the ISO 400 camera setting. I believe the color saturation could be a little better and the grain removed completely by shooting at ISO 100 with a longer shutter speed. A tripod would be required and some patience to set up the composition, but I think it would enhance the overall quality of this image quite a bit :)
Keep up the good work :)

Joy, Comfort, and Loveby dacrazyrnComment: excellent image presentation... I personally think it would be stronger if the 'background' was a little more of an even color scheme for some reason... can't really put my finger on it... |

Sunset Blue...by andrewlrComment: This is a really neat 'theme' series... I like the feel of multiple snapshots stacked together like this to create a single image. I have seen a few similar concepts in the past and this one works very nicely. I think the overall view could be improved with some nice bordering around the entire frame, as this would make an excellent 'tourist' sale piece for those of us who hope to visit Sydney one day :)

Dutchman's Breachesby jnevittComment: Greetings from the Critique Club :)
Hi Jnevitt...
I don't believe I have seen this particular flower before, but I definitely like the shape of it. It reminds me of my Bleeding Hearts in some way... tiny and fragile...
I particularly like flower macro shots these days, as I have been trying to do some myself. Composition is important as always and sometimes the exposure can be a challenge in itself, especially with white flowers.
The composition you chose here works very effectively... the diagonal of the stem leads nicely to the small and shapely blooms on this flower. The shallow depth of field also nicely separates your subject from the environment.
The tonal/color range in this photo seems to be just a little flat. I don't know how to really fix something like that when dealing with white flowers without losing the detail on the flower. Those subtle textures are important and over exposure will wash them out very quickly.
This image also seems to be just a tiny bit soft. It could be from a slightly soft focus, but not entirely sure.
Keep up the good work :)
