Hi Adine...
This is a nice pet photo for sure. I like the composition you chose and the lighting seems to work fine for me, even though some of your comments say otherwise... This would be a good image for you to print and frame for your personal collection :)
When you present a pet photo on DPChallenge, there must be something incredibly unique about it for it to score well. I personally believe that most DPC people are bored with photos of domestic house pets. The score you received and the lack of user feedback in the comments reinforces my belief. The image didn't inspire comments from the viewers simply because it is a house pet photo and there is no single significantly strong element about the photo.
Another reason I personally believe that household pet photos don't score well is the perceived lack of effort to get the photo. Most don't consider it creative, especially in a 'fauna' challenge. Even though this photo meets the challenge, I think more was expected. Photos of children receive the same level of mediocre intreste on this site for the same reasons.

Gateway to the Westby kaysrivComment: excellent perspective on the arch... I think the blue cast works fairly well in this one but I would love to see it the other way as well :) - nice work... |

Pointe Aux Barques Lighthouse, 1949by WesComment: excellent shot... I love postcard scenes that don't have the strong 'cheezy touristy' factor to them. The subdued color on this one nicely enhances the 'old' theme... excellent work :) - setzler |

save the worldby sanandanComment: This is a beautiful image... I know nothing about where this was taken or what the 'postcard' value of it is, but the image is definitely 'speaking' to me... phenomenal work... = 10 - setzler |

Museum of Civilisationby kosmikkreeperComment: excellent architectural photo... i love good architecture shots and this one is no exception. the curves and the light / dark contrast are very strong together. The composition you chose here accents the architecture nicely... great work :) = 10 - setzler |

Hi Kiwi...
This is a good documentary style photo. I think this is is a perfect example of what I would expect to see coupled with an article about this bird in a bird magazine or encyclopedia.
The unique color on this bird makes the photo attractive. The curves and colors definitely work well together in this composition. The shallow depth of field also nicely separates the subject from the background.
Technically, this photo has a few issues that I can't really explain. There is some artifacting along the top of the photo in the blurred background and there appears to be a 'ghost' around the beak... it could be from shooting through glass or something similar... not sure :)
Keep up the good work :)

Fly Away Homeby GordonComment: Greetings from the Critique Club :)
Hi Gordon...
I think my earlier comment briefly sums up my opinion on this photo. Looking into this image, I feel like I'm viewing from the perspective of another bug. The shallow depth of field in this shot creates an interesting surrealism to add to that perspective. Your interest in the 'dream' theme definitely stands out nicely in this photo.
I particularly like the red on green color scheme in this photo as well. This is a complimentary color combination is appealing to my eye and it serves the subject well by creating a pleasant contrast in the image.
The perspective and composition in this image separates it from the mundane 'documentary' style view and creates a strong feeling of being a part of the environment rather than viewing it through some window.
I wouldn't change anything about this image... great work as usual :)

Typical Postcard?by ArtifactsComment: I like 'rustic' images and this old tractor is quite appealing to me. I think there are probably a ton of good photo opportunities on it alone :) The only thing I don't like about this photo is the overpowering level of red in the image. The red on the tractor seems 'too red' to me for some reason. I suppose it could be the natural lighting of the environment. The blue in the sky seems to be a bit weak, so maybe a polarizer would bring that out a little more :) |
