secondary coloryby AesculapiusComment: focus in the lower portion of the image seems just a tad soft... can't see any real reason to have selective focus in the center of the image rather than throughout the whole image... = 5 |

Cabot Towerby orussellComment: Greetings from the Critique Club :)
Hi Orussell...
The story behind the site you photographed is quite interesting....
I don't know if it would have been possible or not, but a different perspective could have made some improvements in this shot overall... the small building top in the lower right side of the frame is a bit distracting... I'm not sure if you had a way to remove that by shooting from a different angle or not.
The antennae on top of the building also seem to feel a bit odd with the center one cut off by the top of the frame....
The image also has an overall blue cast to it. It looks almost like the image was shot using an indoor white balance mode. Some color correction with photoshop may have been able to clear this up.
As a postcard theme, I think you have a good subject, but I would definitely look for an alternative composition if possible...

Sudbury, Ontario. Home of the world's largest nickelby BigSmilesComment: Greetings from the Critique Club :)
Hi Bigsmiles...
I think this image makes as good a postcard as any... It highlights an element of the community that would attract visitors. I don't think I can suggest any compositional improvements to the photograph....
As for the exposure, I think it may be just a tad under exposed. The color/tonal range looks just a tiny bit flat to me.
The text appears to be a little cramped also. In a postcard shot, it would be important to compose it in such a way that you leave room for any text that you want to add to the image.
Good work :)

the old tobacco warehouse - brooklyn, new yorkby tomzinhoComment: Greetings from the Critique Club :)
Hi Tom...
I like the architecture capture in this photo quite a bit... The brickwork and the lines and general composition are all excellent. The color looks a bit odd... possibly from a saturation bump, but not sure... A little extra contrast could help a bit I believe...
As for the postcard theme, I'm not so sure I like it. Postcards generally illustrate a site you would want to visit. I'm not saying that Brooklyn is not a good place to visit, but this particular spot doesn't particularly inspire me to make a trip to see it.
The bridge itself, on the other hand, would be a much more inpsiring scene on its own I believe. The architecture provided there lends itself very well to some interesting photos... I have seen this particular bridge photographed many times in many different ways... I think it's the GW bridge? Not exactly sure...
Keep up the good work :)

gateway to enlightenment, Hagurosan Shrineby kenboComment: Greetings from the Critique Club :)
Hi Kenbo...
The theme you are offering with your postcard photo is a strong one. I also think your composition is excellent. The stairway on the right leads the viewer right up to the shrine... I think the weather conditions and time of day were your enemy in this photo. I think this scene could be photographed on an overcast day to allow you to bring out the more subtle details and keep everything in the scene inside a good exposure range without having any areas too dark or too bright.

Tecklenburgby AnastasiaComment: Greetings from the Critique Club :)
Hi Nasti...
This is a beautiful postcard photo... The composition is excellent and I really like the touch of green that the tree on the left offers... That patchy white clouds also add a beautiful element to the blue sky.
This architecture is beautiful. The lines and angles really seem to come together nicely in this photo. I don't think there is much I can offer for improvement here.
Keep up the great work :)

Pointe Aux Barques Lighthouse, 1949by WesComment: Greetings from the Critique Club :)
Hi Wes and welcome back... Glad to see you went out of your way to bring us this photo because it is simply beautiful. I think I caught onto your idea with the coloring with my original comment on this photo. You did an excellent job of capturing some by-gone era with the coloring. The weather was also beautiful for enhancing this theme. The grey sky works nicely with the bare trees that are just starting to bud with spring in the northern part of the US.
I think this photo is underrated. I don't know why it didn't score a lot higher. I actually think that the 'cheeze' factor of most postcards is quite stereotypical and the aggregate vote on the site probably is used to seeing things that way.
Excellent work... I wouldn't change a thing about it...
Keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing more...

Hawaiian Fire Eaterby PatlinComment: Greetings from the Critique Club :)
Hi Patlin...
This shot is quite interesting... the red tone seems to accent the fire theme quite well... I like the 'abstract' nature of the shot, but I'm not really used to seeing much 'abstract' in postcard themes. I also think the photo would have more impact if it was a little bit larger. The addition of some 'Hawaii' text on the image would also probalby enhance the postcard theme quite a bit as well...
Excellent shot and keep up the good work :)
