Whatever method you used here for soft focus worked. As you self-evaluate this image, ask yourself if the soft focus improved the image or degraded it. I'm just guessing, but it looks like a flash was used on this shot. That, coupled with your soft focus method seems to have washed out any color or warmth that would normally be associated with a soft focus portrait.
