"The title of your image MUST be "Falling Apart"." - your title is "Peer Pressure". Just thought I'd point that out. :P :P :P |

Mating Dance of the Great White Egretby Ja-9Comment: LOL, Well, sorry, it me from the CC again!
This is another great shot from this series Janine. What I love about this shot is not just the action of the bird that you captured. It's the shape of the feathers amongst the foliage that makes the bird look like a flower, just briiliant!
I know the spirit of the Critique Club is to offer some suggestions on things that could be improved in the image but honestly it's hard to find anything. The only thing that made me wonder is if the blues got pumped up to much in the b/g as it seems to be bleeding onto some of the feathers. But hey, 18th in the free study is nice!

political strollby allowat04Comment: Greetings from the Critique Club :)
Welcome to DPC! I really like the composition and the cropping on this. These types of street shots are always appealing to me, you did a really nice job seeing the photo opportunity here and capturing a good moment with the subject walking into the frame.
Don't be too discouraged over this score, you have found out two important things about DPC with this image. 1: DPC voters have a much more critical eye than voters on most other sites. This is a good thing though, if you are open to criticism your photography will improve by leaps and bounds here. 2: DPC voters are VERY tough on selective desaturation. To me, selective desat is like frosting on a cake, a little is great but too much can make you a little sick :)
If you're early into learning photography this is something I think most of us go thru, experimenting with different techniques in photoshop. All in all i think there are definitely more positive things than negative. Keep shooting and entering!

Whirlsby photokopComment: Hello from the Critique Club :)
First and foremost, congratulations on the third place in the art show you mentioned, that must be very gratifying.
I enjoy the colors you have created here, the depth of field is very pleasing to the eye. It is something I have never attempted, I don't know that I have the patience or the skill for it.
As far as what might have improved your placing in this challenge, I think filling the frame more and not having the dark space in the upper left corner might have garnered a higher point total.
Taking a look at other shots like this on this site might give you some insight as to how this might be shot differently, looking at them will certainly serve you better than anything I might add.
Keep Shooting!

Elegantby Ja-9Comment: I think some of you are going to get tired of getting your Critique Club comments from me.....
I think this is a great wildlife shot, it is very reminiscent of another shot on here but I can't remember who shot it. I think this is a case where the centered crop works nicely, all of the feathers are nice and sharp. As noted the exposure was nicely done as well.
Looking at the placing I wonder how the shot would have fared if we could see the face of the bird. Also, when the challenge is titles "Art of 2012" I have to look at every shot and ask myself "would I hang this on my wall?"
I don't know if I would categorize this shot that way, certainly a shot I would like to have in my collection but not necessarily one I would call art in the classic sense, if that makes sense? Again that's just one man's opinion and only for the sake of exploring why it finished where it did.
