I can't tell that there is a gun in this one or in the re-edit. Maybe a chromed gun would have given the image a completely different impression to the voters. It fits the challenge, can't dispute that about it.

Congrats on the ribbon, and for getting in and out of the place without getting busted. This is most likely the first ever photo shot at 1600 iso, and hand held at 1/4 sec to ribbon at DPC. It's exactly right for the challenge theme. Well done.

I find it interesting that this got such a great score, and a ribbon, and so few comments during voting. Well done, and congrats on your new ribbon. The fluffy down on the feather adds a tactile sort of element to the soft pinkness of the overall image.

Bummer you just missed the recent "Cents" challenge LOL. Nice little macro. The side lighting with shadows helps the textures a lot.

You were fortunate to get this little spot of light. I see you used f11 for this. You could have helped get some shutter speed at f5.6 or even 8, and it would have also helped with the noise that you mentioned, though I don't see it in my monitor.
I love the reflections in the water. The centered composition don't quite seem to work for me in this one. Cropping bottom and the right side may have shifted things enough to gain a little in scoring. I'm just sayin' what I'm seeing, so please don't be offended.
Thank you for your thoughtful comment on my (low scoring) image in this challenge. : ) All comments are appreciated, however, honesty helps more than all the "oohs and ahhhs" to improve my shooting by learning what other people see in my photos.

Most impressive shot, for it's difficulty and for your good luck to get it lined up this way and in focus. Lighting is just right, however I feel that a darker background would have helped with the challenge results.

STS-135; The Big Send-Off

Thanks for sharing your historic moment with us. I live about 100 miles from the Cape, and applied for the causeway tickets as well, but missed out in the drawing. I was not able to go up for the launch, and probably would not have, due to the low probability of launch with the weather.
You were very fortunate in many ways to have all the elements line up for you to be there and to be equipped to get this shot. I was pretty bummed that we could not see anything at all from here, though I have photographed several of the shuttle launches from here. I was there for the first launch in 1981, and we waited three nights for the "go for launch" moment.
With the vapor cones, this is one of the best "not NASA" photos I have seen of a shuttle launch. One of my friends, Bill Cantrell, sets up cameras for NASA launches at the cape. I will show this to him.
Congrats on an awesome experience, and on having an excellent story and a keepsake like this one to show your grandkids.
