sandia.jpgby desertoddityComment: That's just too cool! Purple mountain's majesty for sure. I rode the tram to the top when I was there in 06, and wow can you see a lot of NM from there. It's a beautiful place all around. |

Urban Sunriseby alohacarrotComment: When the sun is in the shot, even behind the clouds, it is so bright that it "burns out" a portion of the sky in photos. Sunrises and sunsets usually are best about 10 to 15 minutes before sunrise, or after sunset. To shoot in the lower light, you will have to keep your camera from shaking by using a tripod, or something solid to brace it against for the shots. If the sky appears washed out in the LCD, then reduce exposure (EV) and shoot again. A very simple subject seems to work best for silhouettes in sky shots too. The power lines are interesting, but people like a single subject to focus on in most photos.
Keep shooting and keep looking at the photos online here, and reading the comments on ones you like, and you will learn a lot about how to get what you want when you are shooting. You live in a beautiful place. Show us some of the nice scenery sometime. : ) |

Never can have too much funby alohacarrotComment: As the others said, there is too much apple in this image. I understand that in order to capture the moment, you had to compose and shoot quickly. It's a tough bunch of voters here at DPC, so don't be discouraged by not placing higher in the scoring. I have a 4.5 and a DQ in my challenge shots. You are seeing the "moment" in your shots already, and with some time to learn, about composition and camera settings, I feel that you will soon be improving your scores a lot as you gain experience. |

Shelly Beach Headland - Day 20by sherpetComment: I like the curve in the beach, and color of the sand in this shot. Too bad that the rough weather took most of the sand away. That surf looks like it would be lovely to sit and watch, but treacherous to swim in with the now exposed rocks. The vines look like passion flower vines. |

The House I Live in Day 22by slaaksoComment: I am enjoying seeing what it is like to live and work at Hawaii. I have heard that housing is just extremely expensive there. Home in my book does not have to mean a mansion, but instead a place where your heart is, so this is a comfortable and safe looking home. |

Day 23 - Winter Goldfinchby MaryOComment: Neat, It's a coldfinch! The little spot of color makes this a sweet shot. I see something here that I see once in a while in my shots when I try to pull up the lowest light levels, and that is the pepper sprinkle look on the subject. It's still nice for this subject. It's sort of like grain in images in the film era. |

Davidby AliciaComment: Cool processing. The shadow of the fence makes a great texture/pattern detail in this shot. |

Jan 22.jpgby Mr_PantsComment: Nice location for this shot. I can see the bottom! The bottle. the line of posts put a human touch to this shot. The posts are a strong element of the composition. |

Jan 23.jpgby Mr_PantsComment: This is a nice early or late day shot of a mysterious looking dock area. I like the line of diminishing sized buildings across the way too. Nice colors in the sky, and the bird adds life to it. |
