Woo Hoo! Having a look at the DPC lowest ever pages, you made page 2, and just above the bad "Kitty" shot. I see that there have been others to explore this dark side before you.
On the "bright" side, though, you got 3 10's and 3 9's so someone understood what you were saying.

I think that what happened with the voting was not about the way the bird looks, which is very good, but about the dark background. It looks like a night shot, and cardinals rarely move about at night. Nice close up shot of the cardinal though.

Roz, Your progress into digital art, from your simple and well spotted images, is no less than amazing. This composite is one of the most artistic "photographs" that I have ever seen anywhere. It looks very much like a hand drawn and colored exhibit poster. It's a great little window into the essence of the bird show.

A practice shot for the "Pattern III " challenge? This is a very familiar looking pattern, and I am guessing that it is metal screen of some kind.
Electric razor screen? The gold and white looks nice. I think that it might look 3D with a dark or black background.

I think that it is a potato masher too.
My first impression was a sink strainer, but they usually have sides on them like a basket. I wonder what kind of effect it would make to hold it right on the lens and shoot thru it at wide aperture?
