The bright blue/yellow line on the left is a little tricky for my eyes to focus on too. I like the general way the blue makes the cracker pop to the front in the shot.

If you know exactly where the drop is going to land, you can hold a pencil or small object there, and manually focus on that. I like the taffy colored look of the water in this shot. IreneM is the queen of this kind of stuff. She posts the shooting info with the images in her profile if you want to learn the techniques.

One with the Water

I feel that there are 4 things going on in this image. There is one sharp spot, the wing tip, which is near the brightest area of the image. The reflection of the tree offsets that bright area, directing attention to it. The curves and lines in the motion blurred ripples lead to the bird from 2 directions. Good focus for an on the move pan shot.

Nice looking python! Scales are difficult to light without getting a lot of highlights. Good focus, DOF, and POV for this shot. This must be a pet?

Woo Hoo! Having a look at the DPC lowest ever pages, you made page 2, and just above the bad "Kitty" shot. I see that there have been others to explore this dark side before you.
On the "bright" side, though, you got 3 10's and 3 9's so someone understood what you were saying.

I think that what happened with the voting was not about the way the bird looks, which is very good, but about the dark background. It looks like a night shot, and cardinals rarely move about at night. Nice close up shot of the cardinal though.
