Watching and Waitingby Dominic146Comment: First, this is a very good shot of the bird and the background combo. I like the way the texture in the rock matches the lines of the birds body.
I think that this bird may be an insect eater, and the reason is because of it's big eyes, which make me think that it flies in twilight or at night.
It's a beautiful bird, and looks somewhat like an American bird, the kestrel. |

Roadside Bouquet Gets The Sun's Last Kiss.by jomariComment: I feel that this didn't score well because it is sort of "busy" looking. There seems to be an ambiguous point where the images need to be very simple, with one central subject and focus point, or the other way, a very broad landscape sort of thing in order to have the "it" factor. The ones in between, no matter how beautiful, seem to just not get the big votes.
Personally, I can see what you were after here, and I do like the shot for it's natural shapes and colors. Wild flowers of any type are one of the things that I enjoy seeing anytime. It looks like a shot that I would shoot for myself. |

Gator! by fldaveComment: I could tell that this one was a young one by the smoothness of it's nose. There are a lot of these around this area too. |

Camouflaged-lizard.jpgby jomariComment: You get some very interesting shots with your P&S. I keep one on my belt at all times for things like this, where the moment will be gone if I don't have a camera handy. This looks a lot like Chomp and Booger, the iguanas that I used to have for pets.

Woodby lunachickenComment: I like the B&W for this woodpecker "hanging around" shot. Most of the woodpeckers here are the red-bellied variety, and a few bigger pileated ones are around occasionally. I like the way you included enough of the branch to give it a sense of scale of the bird. You didn't post shooting info with the photo, so I am not sure what to make of the noise in the sky in this shot. I am wondering if it was shot at high iso to get better shutter speed, or if it is cropped from a larger image to get the composition. I am a bit of a fan of noise, especially in B&W images, as it reminds me of the 35mm century. |

butterfly-003.jpgby jomariComment: I agree that it's a skipper of some variety. It's amazing the number of different butterflies that there are when you begin photographing and identifying them.
You managed very good composition, esp where the one antenna is lined up with the stem beyond it. That makes it very easy to see the details there. This is a right nice shot for a P&S camera. |
