I don't get it.by Art RoflmaoComment: This is a cool shot, with the focus on the flower, but the dog as the main interest. That's a nice technique that I will likely find useful someday. Thanks. |

SHY PRINCESS : Sagkahan Slum, Philippinesby hotpastaComment: What honest and natural beauty, in such a tough place to live. Nicely found, and the composition and light is perfect for the whole scene.
Congrats on a great image, and to you for your service to those in need. |

Raptor by trevytrevComment: Congrats on a fine shot, and great finish in the FS. Most birds do not like to fly much when they are wet, so maybe that is why she allowed you to get close like that. Message edited by author 2009-04-08 00:29:26. |

Day 3b ~ Blue and Yellowby WriteHeartComment: I would keep this one, and maybe even crop a little more of the blur out of the corner. The light and complementary colors are grand in this shot. The wider shot would be excellent if you had been able to set the aperture down to 16 or 22 and get huge depth of field so that more of the tree would be in better focus. |

Flaming-Water.jpgby jomariComment: Completely abstract and crazy-cool with color shot. Love the patterns and color in this. I thought it was done by a long exposure of a flame while waving the camera left and right. That's a good use for television. |

daffodil 5by Elzbells47Comment: I like in this shot how there is just enough going on in the background (BG) to see that the flower is not just all alone out in some garden somewhere. It's where it can be seen daily and enjoyed.
If you want to blur the BG in shots like this, try shooting manual, and at low iso, so that the aperture will open up. I almost always shoot flowers in manual mode, at EV -2/3, and brighten the shot later when I edit it. That brings out the textures in the petals without washing out the areas with one color being too strong.
Even in full daylight, I sometimes use flash to fill in the darker areas near the camera when shooting small items like this. A small reflector is even better, as it gives a more even and softer lighting to the subject.
I see that you shoot with a P&S, which makes some kinds of shooting a lot more challenging. I keep a Fuji A920 P&S with me almost all the time, and I get a lot of interesting shots that I would otherwise miss that way.
Welcome to DPC. I hope your time spent at the site will be all good. |

Tulipsby JLSmithComment: You have a lot of views on this shot already. Nice find, and the colors are excellent. You didn't post the camera settings with the image. A smaller aperture setting would have increased depth of field even more. It's pretty cool just as it is though. |
