Life Guard IIby AliciaComment: I think that I like the first edit better because this one lost the blue in the sky. Composition is great, with the bird leading into the main subject, and the hazy shoreline.
Have you looked at this as a duotone or B&W? You could use the levels and color controls to get interesting effects. |

Liberty Island / NYCby DeniseComment: The composition with the dark cloud certainly highlights the statue in this shot. Your timing was very fortunate to have things line up the way they did. It's one of the best shots of this scene that I have viewed. The inclusion of the city skyline completes the shot by giving it location context. |

Octagon Pond Sunsetby geoff_aylwardComment: The light is very even in this shot. It's unusual to get a sunset here with that kind of smoothness of color.
When I shoot sunsets, I usually try to include some blue sky to balance the orange. I see that you used small aperture f22 to get big depth of field for this shot.
Keep shooting and posting.

City Lights --- Moon...Pleiades...Mercuryby scooter97Comment: This is sweet Scott. You actually used the power lines to your advantage in this. You were fortunate to be able to get Mercury like that. Good contrast and levels control in this too. You even got a posthumous comment. How cool is that! : ) |

nectarby laurie241Comment: I like the firey colors and diagonal composition, as well as the DOF in this shot. It attracts my attention on several levels. |

Gazing Grasshopperby jessieludeComment: When shooting anything as small as these items are, it's a lot better if you can use a monopod to hold the camera steady. I guess that to get this, you had to go with what you had in hand. Another trick that I use often is to set the self timer to 2 seconds, which helps a lot with camera shake when I push the shutter button.
Composition could be improved by trimming off the bottom and left third, and ending up with the subjects in a diagonal , corner to corner. There is a lot of dark space, even though it has texture, in the left and lower areas that is not really adding punch to the effect of the shot.
I guess that what I am trying to say is to try to zoom or move in closer to the primary subjects if you can, when you shoot.
Keep shooting and enter often. A side challenge is a great way to find friends here, and get tons of good feedback if you have time to get into one. |
