This does look pretty cool. He looks a lot like "Road Runner" of the cartoon variety. That's good focus and sharpness right on the bird though.

Kestrel

Nice sky and good light for the subject in this shot. Kestrels are one of my fav birds to see in flight. They make it look so effortless to fly fast and turn quickly.

Coral Cove @ sunrise

This certainly reminds me of the early 1970's when I worked as a construction worker when they were first developing Singer Island. I would get to see the sunrise there every workday morning, and each week we would be another floor higher in the building we were working on. At the end of the day, I would drop the hammer and go snorkeling off the beach before going home.

Congrats on your new ribbon, and like JuliBoc said, it great that DPC voters are finally getting comfortable with some blur in challenge shots. This is an exceptional creation and well presented. It captures the spirit of the morning, even the rain helps.

Immature Green Heron

The background sort of gives the shot a two dimensional effect. There are a lot of people who have a problem with an animal or bird shot that has clearly "human touch" items in them, aka boards, fence, buildings ect. The processing is great for detail and color contrast, however it looks a little overdone to me.
Free study challenges are the toughest, because with all the DPC'ers shooting all month and entering their best shots of the month, the bar is quite a lot higher in voting.
There is nothing really "wrong" with this shot. It's just not a great free study shot that grabs my attention and makes me want to look at it for a while to hunt for the finer details and nuances. You are fortunate to live where you can find such nice and relatively tame birds to photograph.

I like the grand curve of the shoreline, and the way the clouds all seem to draw me to the vanishing point on the horizon in this. The colors are sweet too.
