I was going to give this a 9, not necessarily because I loved it, but because it kept drawing me back. I felt uncomfortable looking at it, my thought was the lack of space above the head of the shadow was my only complaint. Looking again this morning I slowly realized that nothing in the image it’s self caused me to be uncomfortable, but the memories it brought forth.
As a child I was given a very long leash, a leash long enough to be able to cross the line between right and wrong, and yes I sometimes crossed it. My father although fair, was not one to spare the rod if that line was crossed too deeply.
This image reminds me of my father standing in my bedroom door, about to apply some education on the consequences of poor choices, and me knowing exactly how that education is going to feel.
Do I love this image, no, but a photo able to bring forth those memories from a 52 year old man is well worth the 10, and this comment it receives.
By the way, before I wrote this, I had a almost 2 hour conversation with my dad, it’s been a long time since we had one, and it was good..

I an one of a few that have taken on the” Comment on every vote challenge”. I will post the score I gave you then try to explain my reasons for said vote. Hopefully nothing below will be taken personally, and maybe we can both learn from it..
I think you did a damn fine job capturing both sides of the personality. Your efforts gain a 9 from me.

I’m sorry this image has little to do with what I suggested this challenge to be, a score of 3. I’ll leave it at that.

A modern day rewrite? Hell I don’t know. I know I am fascinated by this woman. There is a story here, and her name might be Alice.
A 10 and faved.

Not knowing the book I did a wiki on it. Between your image and what I read on Wikipedia I feel the need to search out my next adventure. Thank you. BTW a score of 9.

Although a fine portrait, there is little that ties this to the 19th century, although the hat helps a bit. I am hung between quality of image and believability of challenge topic. I will place this in the middle and give a point for the hat…6

I hate to be one of “those” people, but I hardly call a 2007 novel a classic. Nice shot of the piano, and on a different challenge? On this one a 4 hopefully others don’t know the timeline.

This is a tough one. I am impressed with your capture of the flame, but, I am also offset by the fact you destroyed a book to accomplish it. I’ll leave this as a 6 for now.

This is a fantastic cannon stop action shot, but, your actors are killing me on the believable scale. I give the cannon a 10, actors a 4 only because of period dress. Score for this entry a 7.

What a lovely pond, I only get to see things like this through others eyes as I live in the desert.
In this case unfortunately the best score I can give is a 4, allow me to explain. When I suggested this topic I was hoping for inspiration from the content of the novel rather then the title. Now granted I have not read this book but I did see the movie years ago. If I recall correctly it was less about a pond and more about the relationship of a troubled family.
The image shows new photographer mistakes, “heck I have made them myself“, the trees in the background are a bit strange. My suggestion is to post this picture on forums after the challenge has finished in voting, there are several people here that will be more eager to help you get where you want to go in photography.
