Extraordinarily effective. I think the needlework it evokes is called trapunto, where there are 2 layers of fabric and the back is slit in strategic places and cotton is shoved in to bump things up.

Like what you did. (Don't know if you shot in macro, which nearly always chooses f2.8, but a smaller aperture might have given more definition to the nearer parts of the petals, still blurring the background. If that is what you want. I am only just beginning to try this with my Panny).

Gott in Himmel! You had me going there: Steve has baked an incredible pie - how did he get those little holes just so, and the blueberries each in one... Awfully glad I can read. Double Take, brilliant Double Take, colours perfect. (Actually 6 and 20; wouldn't mention it except I was following the patterns - 3 in centre, 9 surrounding, 14 outside - looks regular but isn't quite).
ETA: just read Double Take description; how disappointing: I like my take on it so much better.

Think this works better than tighter crop because of your focus on the centre unopened buds - they have more to emerge from. Again, not my favourite flower but you have shown their beautiful colour and form - I sort of want to scrunch them into my face and smell their pungent clean scent.

Yes, a white one, in its 2nd or 3rd year. We'll see how it does; I think they have minds of their own, laissez faire or other. (Is there an other?)
