Boats at Restby alexzenComment: Ahh the classic sale boats. Very well done in both style and composition. There seems to be patches of water that look different than the rest though, like in the foreground and to the right of the rear boat. |

Inviting Garden Benchby MaryOComment: Very much impressionistic in style. The subject (bench) really needs more weight for my taste though. Perhaps a path leading your eye toward it or some burning around the bench to make it stand out. 6 |

Pastelsby KarenNfldComment: Beautiful work, but reminds me more of Georgia O'Keeffe than impressionism. I'm no Art connoisseur though so I'll vote my heart rather than my feeble mind. 9 |

Light Through the Treesby davemceComment: Very interesting light patterns and angles which really express "impressionism" well for me. I like the fact that the 3 trees at the 3rds provides a "base" for the rest of the composition. 7 |

Peopleby EyeTrapComment: I can see the every day life here represented in impressistic work, and the photo somewhat resembles a painting in style, but there isn't anything that really captures my attention. Maybe an interesting angle or using the water fountain as a central point of interest would have helped. |

On a Sylvan Pondby Dr.ConfuserComment: This is very "impressionistic" looking to me, but the overall composition is uninteresting to me. There doesn't seem to be a rythm of tones (by that I mean it is neither warm or cool). What could have made it more interesting to me is one dominant rock in the foreground right to balance out the sky. I do like the smooth water and the reflections.
My final vote may seem rather high based on my comments, but you have met the challenge well, and the technicals are ok (minus the sky). 6 |

Day-Seven.jpgby RoosterComment: I agree with BeckyT, you have broken some of the rules and made me love it for its emotion. Who cares if it has a "tree growing out of her head" or blown sky. The impact of this shot is just awesome. Like Becky said the tones really make the subject pop. As a side note, I'm not knocking anyone else's opinion about distractions, it just has enough emotion for me that it overcomes them.

7-Ropesby BudComment: Very funny story to go along with this interesting composition! That 85 1.8 is a great lens huh? Anyway, I realize you didn't "think" about this when you took it but I think if the knot in the foreground was in focus it would have been better. I really love the stong diagnonal created by the side of the boat and the simplistic composition. It is a very pleasing composition to me and the story makes it that much better.

day-7by digitalpinsComment: Very stunning b/w Ryan! I really love the richness of the tones and the composition. That "ying and yang" graphic at the top really contrasts with the chaos of the bottom half. The only suggestion I might give (and this really doesn't change my opinion of the photo) is to use some kind of straightening tool like Photoshop's vanishing point to make the walls straight and correct the distortion.
Very well done. |

Day 7: Windmillby EstimatedEyesComment: Very interesting composition! I really love the debth of this (and I don't mean just DOF). It would have been perfect if you could have gotten the windmill completely centered in the "window" and perhaps smaller. I see you shot at f4 so you must have been on the wide end of the 18-50. Would moving back further and shooting longer make the windmill smaller? I know it would compress the DOF, but I can't work out in my feeble little brain if it would have made the windmill smaller.
Did you use fill flash to get some light on the foreground? If so you sure did a good job controlling the amount (FEC?) as to not kill the shadows. Very well done. |
