I like grain being used to enhance that old time feel. In your pic, I cannot tell what subject you are trying to emphasize. There are too many objects there with the furniture and the decorative piece resting on it. Maybe a differenct perspective - full on shot side shot of the carriage? Nice idea!

Hi Deb - I liked your idea here. I think the black background actually detracts from the picture. It's too harsh of a contrast. Since you are going for an old-time feel here, I would like to have seen this on a lighter table, maybe wood even, and then gone sepia. And then tone down the grain a tad, since the paper is already old. Also, I would have liked to have seen the sharp focus on the foreground rather than the background. Not a bad placement for a challenge this large! :o)

Capturing the sun and stars

Ok so what is the story behind this? lol Is that a telescope? Is that really the sun or a background light? I would like to have seen some light on the rest of the object (for depth) and less reflective light on the lens. I think this is a good idea and I wonder if a filter of some kind would have done something here.
