Ewww eww eww... I hate these things. When I was in college, these things came out of their 17 year hibernation. The jerky college boys would wait until people were walking between classes and shake the trees full of these things. I saw them get stuck in people's hair - BLEAH! And I saw the guys try and eat live cicadas. That still makes me gag.

Ok so I digress but this is the kind of emotion your pic pulled from me. The bug is dark and creepy and big and ugly. Yuck I cannot believe you saved it. lol

Poor baby tree lol. Ok I do love the contrast in colors. The red against the blue really is a great comparison. Now for my own personal taste, I would like to see the leaves sharp and in focus, as if to suggest that the leaves were just kind of floating in detachment from the rest of the picture. That again, is my own opinion, and the way I am feeling today, may not be worth much. It is certainly an eye-catching photo. Nice!

Hi Deb! I did NOT vote in the challenge because I just hate looking at bugs - seriously! And I love this! Your focus on the subject is awesome. Your composition is great and I love the blurred background. On the technical side of things, this is one of your best.

Now about your score. You will find that voters typically do not like OUT OF THE BOX pictures. They like 'em nice and literal. Plus it is possible you could have lost some people who have never been fishing (it is possible!). You did not deserve a lot of those low scores. Instead, focus on the 26 people who thought your pic was better than 5!!!

This is very pretty. Wouldn't it be nice to actually have flowers that had the range of purples and blues here. The colors and composition are great!
