"Iced Tree, Hold the Lemon."by FlatwmnComment: This really appeals to me. The very limited colour palette is effective, as is the simple composition; I even think the border works well. My only slight criticism is that it is a shame the twig to the left of the frame is cut off - another inch and it would have been damn near perfect. Bumping from 8 to 9. |

streetredone.jpgby kawanaComment: Much, much better as far as I am concerned. The small flames really add a sense of menace that seemed missing from the challenge entry. |

street.jpgby mobsterComment: I love the expression of dissaproval on this chap's face - I imagine him viewing some youngsters behaving a little rumbustuosly. The out of focus background is perfect, really highlights the central character. I imagine this would have done very well in the challenge; I would probably have given it the same score (of 8) as I gave to your actual entry. |

EVIL - Reviled even in Deathby KelliComment: This means absolutley nothing to me; I googled "Amanda Bowen" but drew a blank.
From a photographic standpoint, the snow is quite badly over-exposed. |

Day 20 - Jeanneby levyj413Comment: From Jeanne's biog "I enjoy playing with textures, closeups, unique angles, and different styles. I understand that playing is risky business ;-)" - I don't think she had realised it could be this risky!
Jeanne - I hope the recovery goes better than expected; on a positive note, your still life and photoshop skils will be awesome after your enforced break (ouch, pun not intended.

Abstract Studyby brizmamaComment: I like this - an interesting stdy in texure and shape, pleasingly composed. On my (uncalibrated) monitor it looks slightly bright, and I wonder if some judicious burning might bring out the texture even more? |

I'm sure it makes sense to someone...by splidgeComment: Makes sense to me! It used to be a nightmare trying to cross the road to walk the children to school when they were small as it was really dificult to judge the speed of cars - now they all stick to 30 or below, and it has made the road much safer!
As to the technical merits of the photo - I wonder if the focus might have been better on the speed camera itself? As to the tilted composition, I am unsure - I don't hate it, but nor am I conviced by it; the same with the selective desaturation - as a rule I dislike its use, but it works reasonably well here - nice touch keeping the belisha beacons yellow, too. Basically, this is a photo I am ambivalent about - nothing about it makes me want to view it again. sorry...... |
