Relax: Take it easyby CutterComment: My second choice of entry was a similar shot to this - and it works! I personally would have cropped out all of the water, as the lines of the architecture should be the major focus of the image, and the bluey green of the water challenges that fo rthe viewers attention. |

song of the beachby saintaugustComment: Gosh, that rock really does look like a big cat howling, perhaps in grief - the title is spot on. It is ne tiny detail that lets this down for me, and that is the indentation in the sand 2/5ths of the way up on the right hand side. Tiny, but distracting. |

yarnby alexgarciaComment: This is superb - extremely well observed and very nicely photographed. I am undecided about the inclusion of the white 'blob' on central peice of string; would it have been worth sliding it down so that it was placed more on the third, or removing it altogether? I'm not sure. Regardless, I like this very much indeed and shall be back for another look later on! |

Meby xianartComment: This could have been stunning, but, for me at least, there are a couple of issues that totally change the feel.
First what I like - the composition is good, the spare nature compliments the sad face. The perspective is an excellent choice, and really helps the viewer feel the eye contact; it also adds to the feeling of the child's vulnerability. The child's expression connects with me.
Here is why I am not keen on the photo as entered here - firstly the processing of the eyes, which become a too dominant feature. The processing here just doesn't meld with the overall photo. Secondly the bright overblown section of hair, and thirdly the change of background. These last two are easily dealt with by cropping just below the line in the background.
I sound very negative - other's may like the portrait as it is, but I personally would love to see it processed differently, more subtlely, as I feel that it is a strong base photograph |

Wide-Eyed Wonderby walrus451Comment: This is a style of processing that I tend to rather dislike - it seems to me that the subject of the portrait becomes little more than the eyes, at the expense of the overall feel for the person as a whole. |

A Touch of Sunshineby bigfellaComment: A very sweet smile. Lipstick seems rather inappropriate for a young girl, and jars with me. The skin tones do not look completely natural - a little too pink, perhaps.. |

My One and Onlyby russiansergeeComment: I am unsure of what the intent was here. Is the model showing shock, horror, laughter? I find it hard to tell. On a technical note, the focus appears rather on the soft side. |

untitledby romysreeComment: A self-portrait takien whilst holding the camera? If it is, youhave made a reasonable fist of it, if not, you need to spend a bit more time considering the composition. Either way, as a stand alone photograph, there are some problems - in particular, the enlarged forearm, which is just too close to the camera. That said, you have obviously takentime to consider the light, the background and the pose, which is good. |

Setting Sailby homensComment: I find the sunglasses rather off-putting, as though I can't see past them, and can get no feel for the person behind the mask. |
