The Sky Has Fallenby colorcarnivalComment: It's cool the way the light catches on the little stars, and the overall blue tone works very well - I would never have thought to play with the white balance to acheive such an effect - very creative. On a minor compositional note, I do wish the metal bars weren't visible - perhaps part of a plant holder - as I do feel they detract somewhat from the overall effect. |

Floatersby MelethiaComment: I like this - the two leaves intimately connected, banding together in the face of the wide open world. I do though, feel that the water surface seems a little flat (yes, I know water surfaces generally are flat...), sort of like there is just a very thin film of water on a smooth black surface - hard to articulate, perhaps I should leave it as something doesn't quite connect with me in regards to the water surface. Ah, now then, I have just tilted my (work) screen towards me and see that there is more detail there than I thought... much better!
edit: Just seen this is yours Deb. I really, really like the outtake! Message edited by author 2008-08-13 07:56:21. |

Leaf 6807by MelethiaComment: Oh, this one is my favourite - I love the way the leaf is curling up and in on itself, as though to cocoon and shelter itself from the rain. The subtle pattern of the light and the raindrop splashes is perfect! |

Free to Good Homeby BAMartinComment: OMG they are adorable! My three kittens are now growing into young cats two of them are just like these. Here in Yorkshire the message to neuter cats seems to be taken to heed, and the adoption agencies have had hardly any in. |

Interlude #21by BAMartinComment: A lovely and simple title for a pleasingly presented and simple photograph, the one fitting the other well. As tootsweet has mentioned, the condensation on the bottle is wonderful, and I feel adds an aura to the image that is so evocative of my idealised sense of homeliness. On a technical note, I wonder if the composition would be bettered by moving the bottle slightly to the right - the flowers lean to the left, and this may make more of that feature. I am also slightly unsure about the focus - on the green stems and leaves it is as I like it, detailed but not over sharp, but on the flower heads it does seem a little lacking in definition. A pleasing photo that I had expected to see in the top half of scores. |

Monarch: all that remainsby snafflesComment: There is something desperately sad, but also strangely comforting in the scene that you have capture - and captured well. It reminds me of the frailty of life, of how tenuous our grasp on it is, but also that that is the natural order of things,m and that life goes on. A sympathetic photograph, with impact. |

After the Rainby posthumousComment: I haven't ever seen a spotted lily like this - I love the way that it reminds me of a beetle, and then has a beetle riding on it! There is a pleasing hint of translucence to the petals, and I like the composition with the use of negative space. When I was voting I remember thinking that the photo didn't really communicate the concept of 'Fallen' to me, although I can see from your notes why you chose the subject you did. |
