Hello from the Critique Club.

This is a strong photo that has immediate impact on the viewer and it meets the challenge entirely and unambiguously.

On a technical level it is very well done, with a depth of field that suits the composition, and with good lighting. I am glad you included your setup notes - your work has paid off. The vignette adds hugely to the overall 'feel' of the image, lending it a dark and brooding atmosphere entirely in keeping with your subject. There is nothing that I would change in this photo - every element contributes to the whole.

Little more that I can say, other than 'Good Work'!

A really interesting photo that would definitely intrigue and appeal to a young Western child. Looking forward to seeing more of your photos!

Welcome from the Critique Club.

My initial thoughts on viewing this photo is that it is a thoroughly interesting image that is a bit of a stretch for the challenge.

On a technical level, you have used a challenging camera technique to good effect. Composition is very good, although some may prefer all of the tiger's rear leg to be in the shot - I really like the way s/he is leaping out of the corner.

It is on the aesthetic and emotional level, though, that I think the success of this photo lies. The image is full of intrigue - the strange figure in white leading or charming the tiger as though he were a pied piper figure, the ghostly people looking on, the only child whose face is visible has a completely dead-pan, inscrutible expression. Aesthetically I love the way the blur has created a feeling of texture, and has somewhat muted the colours and partially erased all shapes escept the tiger.

In voting I gave this a 6, pretty much for the reasons I have given in the preceeding paragraph. I did feel that, to me at any rate, it didn't depict an emergency; there were two things in particular thta contributed to that idea not coming across - both really nit-picky, but could (possibly) have been countered with use of 'expert' editing - the tiger's gaze is not on the figure he is following/leaping at, and one of the people is holding a camera which makes him a straight spectator ata zoo rather than a part of (my imagined) scene.

I haven't been particularly articulate in addressing this iage, but I hope you get my drift! If you want any clarification, please feel free to send me a PM.

Regards, Sara.

Spot on for the challenge. What 5 year old boy isn't fascinated by diggers, tractors and excavators? The photoshopping makes it look a bit like one of those reusable sticker scenes that children like, and that adds to the appeal for me.

Certainly creative, and I love the way the animals have turned out. Focus is crisp, and lighting on the foreground is good. Not so keen on the composition of the cards at the back, and wish the patch top left was covered as it contrasts quite markedly with the stark whiteness of the foreground.
