it took me a while to work this out .. like an optical illusion .. which for me is wonderful .. not immediately obvious is one of my favourite things ..
of course it became obvious and popped into reality .
loving the black and white edit and the shadows and the contrast .. the darkness is particularly appealing too btw ..

nice .. especially the downhearted looking silhouette person in the distance .. makes me think of a sun setting and a life on its way to setting as well ..
if its a sun rising . then there's more hope for that poor silhouette person .. possibilities and hope .. :)

I thought this would ribbon for sure ..:)

I know it's tempting to view your photos so much harsher when they get penalised by low votes .. and a 1 I've heard can be a mistake .. like they were going to give you a 10 .. something about voting using a phone or using plus or minus keys .. not sure ..

I'd be saying don't let a vote of 1 stop you .. if you truly love photography and like to enter the challenges .. keep doing it ..

also what I've found when a photo doesn't get the love I feel it should during voting .. I tell myself that in a day or so I will have forgotten the 'hurt' ..

can you remember every photo that didn't live up to your expectations .. I can't ..

another thing .. the results here are not always an indication of a great photo ..
I reckon if Ansel Adams entered a challenge here in dpc he may not even get in the top ten .. he could win if course.. but it wouldn't be a given ..

anyway .. I saw your comment and could totally understand how you felt ..
wanted to reach out and let you know .. :)

going thru having a look at some pics in this challenge and this stood out ..
it's a brilliant image ..
I'm at a loss looking at the low votes .. just can't work that out ..
often they penalize you if you stray too far from reality in your editing .. and it seems they penalize you for the opposite .. this looks like one amazing photo to me .. :)

thankyou so much for the 'backstory' I really enjoyed reading it .. and thankyou for sharing your software .. although I'm getting the feeling it's not an easy thing to master ..
