MOP_7502by MattOComment: We've got two people in this side challenge who are showing us some great sports photos. I like the intensity of the guy in the front. That just says it all. |

Hawkby GulizioComment: OMG. Hilarious. Imagine what score you would have gotten if it had actually been a hawk. |

Hats on a hot dayby NeatComment: I didn't vote. I would probably have given it a 5. It's a good family photo, competently processed, but as someone who doesn't know the kids, the subject and processing don't cause any kind of emotional response. I'm generally not a fan of that soft focus processing thing, and I think this might have done as well with a more straight ahead B&W conversion, more like HCB and less like Michael Orton. Without the soft focus, I probably would have given it a 6.
Overall, I think the average score is probably about where it should be. There are always absurdly low votes on every entry, no matter how good, and there are always absurdly high votes on every entry that cancel out the low ones. This shot probably doesn't deserve the 6 1's and 2's, but it doesn't really deserve the 5 9's and 10's either, so it all evens out. |

Haircut by AbraComment: You really have the slice of life family thing down cold. My only complaint is that I want to be able to do the same thing, and just don't seem to have the knack. Excellent stuff. Congrats on the win! |

After The Trimmingby seethroughmylensComment: It's a cool tree, nicely processed, and I like the sky to the left, but the repair work in the upper right just doesn't work. Overall, it might be better to crop the right side out. That would get the tree out of the center of the frame, and just get rid of the blown out part. |

2013 PAW - Week 5by MarkBComment: Wow, nice. Love the detail. I find the same thing when I'm shooting strong reds, especially flowers and flamingos. Once I do the levels adjustment, the saturation goes to 11, and I have to dial it down to keep from blowing out the red channel. I like the saturation on this one, though. |

African Bush Grasshopper (PAW 6/52)by HarveyGComment: I really do like the minimalist approach with all the negative space. I agree with Maggie, it was very nice of him to arrange himself all on the same focal plane. It is too bad he couldn't be a bit sharper, but better to get this guy like this than to miss him because you're switching to a macro lens. |

IMG_3849-Carillon-Tower-800by sfaliceComment: Sweet. That building couldn't have been cheap to build. According to dictionary.com, "demilune" is a fancy word for crescent shaped.
The thing on the top looks like a typical HD satellite dish. It's possible that even if the building is wired for regular satellite already, the resident is getting satellite from a foreign language provider. For example, one of my Dad's neighbors has a second dish because she gets Greek language programming from some provider that's not DirecTV or Dish. |
