Tour de Soleilby PhotologistComment: A unique photo with great composition and beautiful colors. I'm not surprised you got two favorites with this one. |

up the creekby skewsmeComment: This is a very interesting shot. Underrated, I think. I really like your post-processing choices, and I appreciate the fact that it is deliberately not over-sharpened. The more I look at this, in fact, the more I like it. Don't let the score get you down on this one - it's got a lot more going for it than initially meets a quick glance. |

thinkingby sickdogComment: Chris,
I enjoy your street photos a lot. The soft focus alone isn't necessarily a bad thing (though it probably cost you some votes on this uber-sharp-focused forum), but the blown highlights on the shoe and behind the garbage can distract me from this man's face. I hope you'll keep getting out there and shooting - I too enjoy street photography and appreciate just how difficult it is! |

snowflakesby k4ffyComment: I really like this photo. I voted it a 7 and was surprised it didn't score higher. I think you did an excellent job with lighting and DOF, and the crop is interesting. Nice job! |

Classical with a twistby MelethiaComment: Deb,
I'm surprised this one didn't score higher. I gave it an 8. I think you did very well with the tonal range, and I like the crop. Another great photo! |

Christmas Futureby raishComment: Raish,
This is an interesting shot with very nice DOF. I find myself wishing I could see just a bit more of the bottom children's faces, but the eyes are very captivating. Nice job! |

Pssst, did you see what Sally was wearing yesterday?by JuliBocComment: Julianne,
Your photos have definitely gone up a notch in the past month or so, and this is no exception. This guy has amazingly vivid colors, and he's very sharp. I think the only thing that may have hurt you is the white splotch in the background near top. One thing I learned in the online photo class I took last month was that the eye is always drawn to the brightest area in the picture. In this shot, it detracts from the parrot's face and pulls the eyes up and out of the photo. Nonetheless, this is a very strong effort and the title is great! |

Modern History - Save the Lightby jaxsondComment: I really like the old-world feel to this in addition to the composition, and scored it accordingly. BTW, I also live in the Folly Beach area and immediately recognized the lighthouse.
I think you are right that voters are looking for an immediate 'wow' and many passed this by without appreciating its artistic strengths. |
