I've always liked the solitude and mystery of woods, so this photo resonates with me. There's something in the color and balance of composition that doesn't quite feel right, though. I think it may be the large tree center left seems almost like it is blocking me from entering the photo. I also think it may be just a bit dark.

Love how the hippo is peeking up at you. I think what may hurt you on this shot is the number of conflicting patterns (rock, hippo hide, water) that all pull in different directions. I also think there is too much contrast between the rock and the hippo, but not enough on the hippo himself (would like to see more detail in his hide). Still an interesting shot and right place at right time.

The lamppost bisects this photo in a way that does nothing to add to the composition IMO. However, I do like the tone of the roof against the sepia sky.

I really like this capture, as the spider is interesting and the background a nice contrast. I think for a higher score in this contest, the spider would have to be sharper, though. What a funny face on his abdomen!

Not a bad action shot, but looks very washed out. Consider increasing saturation for a more dramatic effect.

The color of the sky works well as a foil to the bricks and church. However, the focus looks a little soft, and the composition isn't quite "there."

The trail is nice, as it has a bit of mystery. The color temperature looks very cool in this, however, and the sunsplotches detract.

This is funny and artistic. You'll probably get dinged for blown whites, but I think they are really effective here. The only problem is the line around the top of head - looks a little fake.
