Big Boys Kiteby JimiRoseComment: Greetings from the critique club!
Nice leading lines in this with great colors. I'm not sure if I like the extra kites in the background however I don't think they are that much of a detraction. If anything they help give us a sense of scale. Nice sky but it looks noisy for some unknown reason. (Oversharpening maybe?)
I would have been tempted to rotate the image so that the string came out of the corner buts thats just being nit-picky. As it is its a simple pleasing composition that fits the subject well.
The challenge: There were a few kites in this challenge so not entirely original however it wasn't done to do death either.
overall: great image that is stirs up memories of my own kite flying |

DSCF3220_1.jpgby rbryan22Comment: Be careful with your composition and be aware of what is in the background. In this case you've allowed a tree to grow from the girl's head. |

Behind Tulipsby gg3rdComment: great idea. I would like to see a bit more depth of field. for starters. Composing this without the background vegetation would be nice. Aside from that a really great image. |

All my Children IIby KronusComment: Is this IR? Normally I don't like this style of border but here it helps emphasized the panoramic feeling of the shot.
Reaction? Me likey!

Remember meby JaimeVinasComment: Nice edgy look. Unfortunately there is a lot of artifacts on the sky. As this is advanced I think you could select the sky separately and get it to look the way you want.
That aside its a good shot and does tell a story. (A sad one unfortunately) |

Sky Swoopersby lynnesiteComment: I was looking up the image after your post regarding the triangle composition challenge. Personally I don't know how the voters didn't see the curve. You will notice however that those who stopped by to comment rated this pretty high. Too bad adding a red line wasn't legal...

Womanby asdisyrComment: Nice idea however make sure that you use the largest size allowed. in this case 640 px on the longest side. |

''EVEN so my bloody thoughts, with violent pace, Shall ne'er look back, ne'er ebb to humble love''by cdriceComment: Greetings from the critique club!
The first thing I'd like to point out is something that's been said previously. There isn't a strong tie to challenge. I think this is where you got dinged the most I am afraid. While your quote makes reference to the word even, remember we are looking at your photograph for the evenness. Yes there are two people but that's about it. Anyways, on to the rest.
The actor portraying Othello, without the actress behind him would have made a terrifc shot. She isn't blurred enough to fade into the background and appears visually stapled onto his shoulder.
Fairly sharp image considering you shot a slow shutter speed. (I have this same lens and I would recommend shooting at faster than 1/75 of a second.)
Good detail in the face and nice capture of his expression. I like the contrast between the back drop and the colors of his shirt.
Final analysis? A pretty good shot unfortunately entered in a challenge where it didn't work. It easy to feel compelled to enter a shot for the sake on entering but be aware that people are going to comment on how your shot doesn't fit the challenge than how it works photographically if you shoehorn your entries. (I know I am soooo guilty of entering when I know I have a cruddy shot). Anyways, live and learn.

Alone in the Outfieldby arron_christensenComment: Greetings from the critique club! Good choice of subject for this challenge for a couple of reasons. One - he is by himself. Two - coincidentally enough he is number 7.
For ISO 1600, you handled the noise quite well however if you had an opportunity to shoot at a low ISO I can only imagine how sharp this would have been.
The composition works well and makes good use of negative space.
Colors are rich and nicely saturated without going overboard.
Overall well done. |
